http://boratonline.co.uk/

"The Borat Movie is released on Nov 3rd 2006 and has received unbelievable reviews across the board. Empire magazine gives it 5 out of 5 stars (classic film). Put in context, recent worldwide comedy successes Something about Mary and American Pie both received 4 out of 5."

now for korea, who knows...

my friend who saw a preview in SF said there was "lots of full-frontal male nudity" so maybe the korean censors will have to spend a little time with their x-acto blades before we can see it here.

heaven knows that the "chrem" quotient in that movie is probably bigger than anything i'll see in the gym today. i've heard a lot about those kazakhs. no doubt they scare korean dudes.

they had a press screening of it at the Busan Film Festival... so maybe the naughty bits are edited out already.

I caught it at the Toronto Film Festival.

If you like the show, you're really going to like it.

From what I understand it's getting a release here in December (see the earlier Pusan Film Festival thread). Its sole screening at the Pusan Film Fest was heavily promoted - there was a group of Korean dudes dressed up like Borat, even sporting silly little fake moustaches, shouting "Anyong haseyo. Borat-uh" as I exited an elevator once.

They don't censor frontal nudity at film festivals, even Asian ones. Some films like Bruno Dumont's "Flanders" (which I saw) had full frontal nudity unedited at the fest, and John Cameron Mitchell's "Shortbus" (which I didn't see) has several scenes of straight and gay intercourse which I doubt they edited. But in the wide cinema release, yes, I think they'd edit the nudity out of "Borat," and I don't think "Shortbus" will make it to Korean shores.

Reaction?

#1 at the box office, surpassing The Host.

There are test screenings imminent in Korea to gauge public reaction to the film. I'm guessing that based on these Fox will decide on whether to put it on general release here.
Hearing a colleague describing the screenplay as 'not funny' i wouldn't get your hopes up...

I don't think the general Korean sense of humor is suited to a film like this. Wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't get released here.
