Aha, and wheres the war?

Basically anything is war and they always take "appropriate measures" but I thoughbwar mant shooting and stuff. I ask again, if war is war then WHERES THE FUCKING WAR?

They threatened a sea of fire or somehting like that if the GNP won the local elections months ago. GNP almost swept, Seoul aint a sea of fire.

Completely clueless to how unsympathetic their own position was, North Korea said it was war when Japan thretened sanctions over the abductees issue in 2004.

Not covering our bomb test adequately on CNN? That's a declaration of war. Making fun of dear leader's haircut? That's a declaration of war. Saying good morning and how are you? Well, just to be on the safe side, it's a declaration of war too.

One of the things the Western media should be doing, but isn't, is offer perspective. When KNCA says these things, it would be helpful if they added:

"The North Koreans have a long history of making these threats. At a meeting at the DMZ in 1993 they threatened to turn Seoul into a 'sea of fire'. KCNA propaganda has been claiming the peninsula is on the verge of war ever since the last one halted in 1953. It does this to keep domestic support for the military and the regime high, blame their failings on the outside world, and to extort what they can from nervous neighboring countries."

But Western media doesn't say this. The result? Your mom and dad in Bangor, Maine read yesterday's paper and say, "OH MY GOD, NORTH KOREA HAS DECLARED WAR!!!"

Some possibilities:
1. The people writing the news have only a superficial acquaintance with Korean affairs, and simply aren't aware that this is what KCNA does. Neglecting to provide this background is an innocent mistake caused by ignorance.

2. The big outlets are well aware of what KNCA sounds like, and are choosing to hype it right now to prolong/deepen the issue. War has always been good for business. See CNN, 1990-91, and 2001-03.

3. They're beating the war drums because a decision has been made in Washington to prepare the populace for armed confrontation with the Norks. I think this is least likely - Bush keeps clearly saying they're not going to attack/invade. His language is very different from 2003.
