there are more as well.....

it would appear that NK uses the phrases "sea of fire", "Act of war" and "Declaration of War" every year, sometimes twice in a year, since the 1980's...Maybe they need a more imaginative English instructor.

If that happens, I'm prepared to extend the photo contest by a couple of weeks. War photos will get extra points in the judging. No one ever won a Pulitzer for red trees in mist-covered woods at dawn.

If they test another bomb...things would get more serious (China would halt grain and oil supplies possibly), but I think all parties value a slow strangulation of the regime over any fireworks. In which case..KimJ's last stand would come out of desperation..-later.

as an update, I've researched this a little more and discovered this list of sea of fire references:

threat timeline
1994 - Seoul is Sea of Fire
1998 - Washington is Sea of Fire + crush Seoul and Tokyo
1999 - america and korea is sea of fire
2002 - US troops in Korea Sea of Fire
2003 - citadel of imperialists is Sea of Fire
2004 - Japan will be a Sea of Fire
2005 - US bases will be Sea of Fire
2007 - Seoul Sea of Fire

They're, uh, becoming more frequent.

Kim's obviously been stuck with Tom Clancy for a decade. The plot is surprisingly similar by the way.

There is much more going on here than meets the eye.

And the role of the United State's government stinks to high heaven.

I have students who are reasonably literate in English, but for mostly cultural reasons lack the skills to critically evaluate a source. As a result, they tend to believe whatever they read, because that's how they've been trained. In their world, books don't lie, and the government-mouthpiece newspaper where nothing is ever wrong with anyone CERTAINLY doesn't.

Which is why the first thing I did when I clicked on your link was find out where it was coming from. Who is writing something is often more important than what is being said. Is there a bias? Agenda? Well, here's what's on offer in the margin of the source page:

The Globalization of Poverty
by Michel Chossudovsky

Celsius 911 - World Takeover & the War of Terror

US Apache Helicopter massacring Iraqis

The Links of Terror Suspect to MI6

Ah. I get it now! They're not just anti-American. They're not just anti-globalization. They're those freaks who went to my university who had the bad haircuts, didn't shower and passed out Marxist-Leninist pamphlets in front of the women's dorms!

I always wondered where they ended up. Either writing crap like that or selling 30 year old Volvos. Thanks for the link.

Uridang is the ruling liberal party. The conservative party is called Hannaradang. (Someone can correct my spelling.)

So, if you tend to disagree with the Who, you also throw out the What?

Bad idea. Sometimes the Who I didn't like before I read their What often turned out to be telling the Truth, which is What I'm looking for.

What you practice is called predudice and closed minded approach to thinking.

It's important to know Who is writing and be aware of any bias, agenda etc, but that's not to say What they say should be rejected apriori.

You mistake writers who are anti-US government for anti-American. But I would expect that from Someone who rejects What people say because of Who the are.

Bah, if South Korea is the Asian tiger, North Korea is the poodle. As much as they freak out, and they do so quite easily, they aren't very dangerous.

Remember when North Koreans freaked out when they found a newspaper bearing a frontpage picture of Kim Jong Il on the floor of one of South Korean offices at the defunct joint-nuclear power station project? What about those crazy North Korean 'cheerleaders' having a fit when they saw a picture of Kim Jong Il getting wet in the rain during the Asian games in Pusan?
