Hello all,

I am doing a presentation on......

Developing foreign English teachers in Korea.

I need some info if you have any, such as:

* What are korea doing to develop foreign english teachers (this thing where u go to on a Saturday to immigration for training?) Have u got any experience in it or so.

* What is the EPIK program like and what do they do to develop teachers

* Also, any information that people could provide to help me in the presentation, need ideas to write a report.

Koreans (especially Hagwon owners) are offering free and realistic lesson on how to avoid getting screwed. They do this by providing realistic situations to English teachers by intentionally breaching our contracts and violating various types of laws in the areas of labor, immigration, tax, and pension. As a result, us English teachers have to constantly be on our toes to study and learn these Korean laws and fight them to avoid being violated. As a result, at the end of our one year contract, we become experts in these Korean laws.

You are most definitely Korean, so I have to ask what your intentions of this report will be. I hate being suspicious, but we all know how some people scour this board for stuff to attack us with. I would just like some clarification about this report before I respond. Thank you.

Always have some posters having a go don`t we, no I am not Korean look at the flag on the left. I currently work at a private elementary school and have been asked to give a presentation on something. It was very difficult to come up with something because the audience will be professional teachers and talking about games or whatever would be boring. I thought about this topic because I heard lots of people talking about going to immigration or so and getting a days training which is obviously not enough. These things will be highlighted in the presentation saying one day is not enough, and also cheesys comments about how hagwons exploit it and just put people in their hagwons. I have been here for 3 and a half years now and had a few bad hagwons, so I will be telling of my experiences. I just wanted any ideas or information as the report has to be in two weeks time, so thought about getting it from here with some people who have experience from EPIK training or this immigration thing. You help is appreciated............

I know about the negative aspects lads, and agree but any websites that are helpful or info is great. cheers
