Does anyone know if it's safe to drink the water directly from the faucet if you boil it first?

Thanks,
Karin

I believe so, I sometimes drink boiled tapwater in Anyang. The problem with Korean water is microbes, so it should be fine. Thing is, it still tastes like crap, so the majority of the time I just buy bottled.

It is not so much the microbes that is the problem but the other crud in the water. Boiling is ok as long as you can distill the water to seperate it from the metal crap.

If not I would just suggest sticking to bottled water.

Agree, bottled water is cheap enough.
You'll be fine boiling the tap water.....extremely minimal chance of some kind of bacteria getting through.
I'd do likewise, but like someone else said I dislike the taste compared to the bottled shit.

You can get 12 liters of water for under 4,000. Just buy the bottled. The metals and chemicals build up in your body over time. That is the danger. Of course boiling kills the bacteria, but thats not the scary part for me. People always ask this question, but why take a risk when bottled is so freaking cheap?

Right on. The problem with the tap water is generally not bacteria but the metal content, which boiling doesn't remove unless you distill it. The metals and chemicals do build up over time, so it could be years before you notice an effect. Why risk it?

The Korean news has had loads of stories claiming just the opposite. Experts here say that the bottled water is crap, and that your best bet is to boil water and make tea. Easy to do as they sell the monster tea bags here. Boil the water, make some tea, let it cool, then put it in the fridge. No worries here, and I've been here almost 15 years.

Can those big jugs of water (the same ones in the hot/cold water coolers) be delivered to your house? If so, how?

Thanks.

Think about it this way, when you're slurping down your soup and noodles down at the local kimbap shop, do you think the ajuma used bottled water in your pot?
