| Well, Sweetmarias doesn't ship to Korea. They've received too many fraudulent orders from here. |

Self-indulgent, maybe, but pretensious? You wouldn't be saying that if we were talking about homebrewing beer or exchanging pie recipes...but it's essentially the same thing. It's all about experiencing (and experimenting with) new and different flavours and aromas. |

Actually, the first word that came to mind was "gay." No, your posts were fine, the other poster though, basically telling me how much cash I need to spend to get an acceptable flavour. When in reality, I've had a $1200 machine, and a $60 machine, properly grind the beans, blah, blah, and there is really no discernable difference in the espresso brew. The $1200 machine did froth a bit nicer tho. |

As an ex-audiophile (yes, I've kicked the habit!) I can perfectly understand doing something to the nth degree and the persuit of perfection.
As an audiophile it became more of a hobby. I loved playing with nice shiny, powerfully loud toys!! . Adjusting and tweeking is all part of the fun too. It's not just about listening to music. Also, there's a community of people, just like you, who share your interest. I think there's an ingredient of that in what Novernae and Hollywoodaction do with coffee.
I think it's a cool thing to do something at a very high level. Whether it's making coffee, listening to music or building computers. |

Actually, for me it's more about making things on my own and experimenting with the results. I've always been like that (building furniture, car repairs, home improvement, brewing beer, etc. ). Plus, roasting your own coffee is cheaper (5 dollars a pound for top notch beans, as opposed to 20 if you bought it at the coffee shop). Another big thing that got me into roasting is that you'll always drink fresh coffee if you roast the right quantity.
Speaking of being an audiophile...You were into the vaccum tubes? That's a slippery slope I wouldn't want to step on. |

I never had enough money to buy a tube hi-fi amp but I did insist on tube guitar amps. And yes, they are a cruel mistress once you get in too deep. It sometimes seems I spent half of my early 20's swapping in and out EL84's and EL34 tubes in various tube amps in an effort to hear something which sounded more like Hendrix!!! |

I guess I shouldn't tell you about the new tubes that are made to the specs of the old GE and Mullards or of the reissued Tung-Sol.

I know how you feel. I was shopping around for the most bitchin' 6L6 and 12AX7 (it's got a Sovtek and a pair of Sylvania NOS right now) for my practice amp until I came to realize that would be a waste of money. |

Found a bunch of espresso machines!
In Bundang, Samsung Plaza, there is a department store right in the middle (sorry don't know the name)--take the escalator down one floor, viola! Right in front of you you will see espresso machines---I believe they had about 8 different models in stock, ranging from about 220,000 won --up to well over 2,000,000 Won for the heavy-duty "coffee-shop class" machines (the ones you coffee snobs were drooling over). |
