Nope, ya-ta, don't think so. This was a major smackdown. What we just saw is something I thought we would never see. That apology and backing off? Never been done before. That is one scared little man.

In fact, I was talking with an adult class last night when they informed me of the Chinese delegation going to NK. I had seen nothing about it in any Western media, so was caught off guard. My very first thought was the KJI was getting a royal ass kicking. I even went all Konglish/colloquial and demonstrated it:

Ya! Pabo! Mo hae? Knock that crap off or we're taking you out *smack upside the head*. Alasau? Aishhh...

Got a few giggles out of that.

People have not paid enough attention to China's ulterior motives regarding their designs on NK. I fully expect a coup by, or with the support of, the Chinese at some point. NK is as good as gone, and KJI has just become irrelevant.

We produced and tested a weapon capable of obliterating cities and ignored all international voices condemning us, threatening to use it if we don't get what we want. But, shuckums, we're sorry we did it. Now can we have some candy for being sorry?

KJI is full of crap. Int'l community should not fall into his bull again. Just need to keep the sanction going until his booted out.

Well it is new. Hes not referring to the laundering sanctions. Hes referring to the latest ones. What is new is:
1. KJI actually APOLOGIZED for something he did.
2. He then humbled himself by dropping the demand for direct talks, saying any format is ok.

Incredible!

I remember it very well and thank god Eddie Murphy nor Hollywood are making foreign policy (or are they?). This isn't a laughing matter and any news such as a concession should not be dismissed outright but probed.........

I'm quite glad he's sorry, even though it does look like it means he is (openly) China's little poodle dog from now on, which could have worrying implications.

I'd like to see the script of what he really said.
i mean his exact words in Korean.
the media "English interpretation" may be overstated.

I agree, he cannot keep chopping and changing, bluffing and apologising. The cry wolf game has worn thin. Its just not how the nuclear club works.

Int. sanctions won't work without China's full participation.

TThey both look like smug jackasses in that picture. "hahaha we scared them, now lets get some more aid out of them again. We can keep this up forever."

Time to face KJi with his worst fear: the determined international strangulation of his regime and existence. Id' like to see him hang at the war crimes tribunal in a few years from now.

Just out of curiosity, where would your next target be? Hypothetically, if the "axis of evil" was smashed, where would the fighters of the global war on terror turn its attention too then? Or would said war be over?

You sound like you're on Kims side? You want to let the North Koreans continue starving a while longer?

But to answer your Q: there are many corrupt and tyrannical regimes that need changing. So many. but the US has to tackle the ones that are the biggest threat to their interests first. Somewhere like Burma or Sudan doesn't fall into that list of priorities.

Why do I sound like a Kim-sympathiser?? I assure you I'm not....

I'm just interested in the idea of this 'global war on terror', being conducted against people who 'hate freedom'. I watch AFN on a daily basis, and these catchphrases are slung out at every opportunity. It's interesting that you point out Burma, as their people do not have 'freedom' - but as you said, the US has no interest there. They are no threat to the US. Mind you, neither were Iraq yet that country was liberated/invaded under the pretense that the people would be getting something out of the liberation/invasion - namely, the right to vote and an end to an oppressive regime. Citizens have Burma still suffer these conditions (terror) so by my logic, the global war should move there at some point.

Now, if we could only get Bush to apolgize for most of the things he's done and humble himself.

His admin and members of Congress have actually come out and said, if they had to do it again, [Iraq] they would.

Can you believe it? Do it again the same way?

C'mon, Burma has little or no OIL. If they did......you can bet your sweet pippy the Cheney Crowd would be all over them.

wow, I totally did not expect this! KJI might be willing to compromise about something? Now we're getting somewhere!

What would that accomplish? World political policy does not exist so you can feel butterflies in your tummy dude. Give me a geopolitical reason for Bush to apologize and how it will benefit the United States, and give it to me in a 12 point font, and I might stop thinking you're a raving lunatic.
