Off topic I guess. Can't link it but there are rumors in Canada that the blackberry owner who just boought the Pens would consider moving the club to Kitchener-Waterloo. It's out of the Leafs area---a Bplan would be to get into bed with the Lrafs and play at the ACC.....TO area I think can suppot 3. |

3 come on! Not a chance...
The Hamilton area one MIGHT support one for a bit because the Leafs are like the Yankees (minus the championships mind you) people from everywhere either love them or hate them...
but 3 teams in Toronto? that's just silly... |

the one in Hamilton could pretty much be considered a Toronto team, and I think 2 would be the limit. |

Two, maybe three.
But they wouldn't be able to win anything. |

i've done a fair bit of reading, and if he ever tries to move that team to waterloo he'll be laughed at by the NHL. there are at least 5 places that would be better suited to carry an NHL team right now. |

I agree. However, if he was to do it, I would be seriously pissed that I wasn't a few years younger so I could just be starting university again.
That reminds me, I met the guy that is the CEO of RIM (he is the chancellor at U of Waterloo) and he asked me what I was doing after I graduated. I told him going to Korea, and he said "why would you want to do something like that?" |

This is ofcourse all based on the faulty premise that the Maple Laughs are a team. |

They would have to make it to the postseason first. |

Come on now, I'm all for the mocking of not winning a Cup. But 1 year in 8 we don't make the playoffs and you jump on that? |

Yep! We can talk about all the Stanley Cups they have won in the last 40 years if you want. |

Well, they've beaten the Habs pretty consistently in recent years. Unfortunately for the Leafs, they were owned by a psychopath named Harold Ballard for a lot of years. In my opinion, the Leafs have been a pretty solid hockey team in recent years. What they need is a couple of strong, power forwards who can put the puck in the net. They made the mistake of thinking Lindros could fill the bill.....another big mistake. |

A hockey team in Hamilton would be double plus awesome. And I say that as someone who completely despises that city. |

Yep, Hamiltonians know how to party. I used to always go the the Labour Day Classic and it was always a blast. I guess the blue-collar trashiness of the city leads to good times. |

Teams could be supported....but is that the best location for a new or moved team?
How about Winipeg? A team there would be cool, the city wants one.
As for the Leafs....they were annoying because they bragged (the fans) about being the best team in Canada while having won their last cup when Lester B. Pearson was in power.....that was the schmuck factor.
Now, the attitude has changed a bit (thank you new NHL and salary cap)!
A Hamilton team....well that would be possible but why not just stay in Pittsburg....get the arena deal done. I would hate to see hockey fans in Pitt lose out.
Also, Kansas City has a much stronger bid for a team than Waterloo....they have a brand spanking new 21000 seat arena under construction and would be an instant rival to the Blues.... |
