What's the best place to buy DVDs of unknown origin in Kangnam or anywhere on the south side of Seoul?

I'd like a place with a decent selection of Korean movies. The only places I really know are the guys on the street outside exits 6 and 7 of Kangnam station and one guy in Kangnam Underground Shopping Center.

Rent whatever you damn well like from a DVD rental store then take it home and copy it on your computer. It's easy. Two clicks of a mouse if you have the right software.

If you like, you can buy DVD cases in Linko's, or even cheaper on the internet (100 won apiece). Then google for the DVD cover on the internet and print it. Voila! Your own, street-quality, pirated DVD!!!

Of course, I haven't done this about 160 times!!! Laughing

Actually, the real issue is that DVD rental stores hardly have any DVDs in them. It's a bunch of crusty old videos and a few DVDs, all of which are less than 2 years old. they just never switched over. Even the guys on the street have a better selection.

But my local DVD store in Daechi-dong has maybe 4 or 5 thousand DVD's. Korean and western. Old and new. I can find a dozen films I would like to have a copy of each time I go there.
But, it's true that kind of store is exceptional in Korea.

Daechi 4 dong. Near the rear of the Lotte dept store at Hanti station. It's a little hard to spot. Walk north toward Seolleung station from Hanti station. Take the busy sidestreet to the right after about 200m. The DVD store is about 80m down there, on the left.

If you really want to become a member there I could meet you at Hanti station any mon-wed-fri at 6:45pm when I'm walking home from work. I'll bring you right to it. It's a great DVD store.

Eamo, you must live close to my area. I've been in that store and yeah, it does have a good selection of movies, a large amount, which is surprising. I found the staff to be rather friendly also.

If you live in the Villa neighborhood between Hanti and Seolleung stations then we would be neighbors. For about another month anyway! I'm moving to North Seoul where prices still have some bearing on reality.

Yeah. The staff are always helpful. It's just a pity all the DVD's are in no discernible order.
