Actually I think this bust sounds great, though it may involve a few naive foreigners. Good on them for getting to the source of the problem and not just scooping up a few waygook illegals. I showed it to one of the teachers at my school and he said the Mr Kim involved has quite a famous reputation in English education.

The Marmot is a counter-balance to Kravda, er, I mean Korean English-language news media.

According to Newsis, police plan to expand their investigations of foreign English teachers and deportees from the United States, believing both groups to have been easily exposed to drug use overseas.

Uh-oh. Racial profiling against the evil foreign English teachers, here we come! But why stop there? Why not go after business groups from other countries, people like our beloved guru, or wangja and other non-teaching postion holders, who have obviously been corrupted by the evil drug-using ways of the west? Rolling Eyes

Does anyone smell a pee test for visa holders in the near future?

What is Newsis?

I'm guessing it's a play on "Pravda", a Soviet era newspaper.

The story was just on KBS2 8 o'clock news. Prepare for the netizen deluge.

Well...there we go.

The arrests and bookings seem to be warranted.

Sadly the media will do what all media do: ring this for all its worth.

It does not take many bad apples or ill-advised people to start a feeding frenzy in the media does it?

Yeah, that's been a running gag on Dave's since the days of Derek, and still I've yet to see anything beyond hearsay from "sources" about rumoured "plans". I highly doubt anything like that will ever happen. But if it does, then they oughtn't use job/visa profiling or nationality profiling, but rather age profiling. Anyone between the ages of 18 and 35 should be tested. Women of all ages, however, should be exempt from testing, since women are pure and decent and because I'm kissing up to the ones on Dave's.
