I'm trying to figure out the best way to secure a decent contract teacing in Korea. I've ben offered a job, but I'm not 100% sure about the contract and working hours.
So I'm wondering if it would just be easier to fly to Korea and look for a job once I get there. My girfriend, a gyopo, has family there so we'd have somewhere to stay. That way we could appear as serious job hunters and secure decent contracts and then get reinbursed for the flight once we get hired.
Does anyone have any comments on this strategy? Or is it instead best to sign the contract and have the flight paid for?
Thanks!! |

If I had a gyopo gf and a place to stay I'd most definitely come over here first and look for a job where I could meet any other FTs in person and then contact them later confidentially. Is your gf also looking for work? What kind of job are you looking for? If you want a public school job and have no experience you will most likely have to go through EPIK, GEPIK, or SMOE anyways, in which case you can just land your job from back home. If you want to work for a better hogwan or adult academy you should most definitely come here first and check things out first-hand. |

Definitely come here if you can and look for a job. It's one of the best decisions I made. You not only get a chance to meet the owner/director in person, but the other teachers as well. Plus, if they allow it, you can sit in on some classes and get a feel for how well things are run. |
