Ah yeah, I love the Anti-Nowhere League. My favourite song is "Break the Law." |

Good tunes posted so far. I liked The Cat Empire the best. So We Don't Live Alone is also a good one. I can respect the country twang, but have no ear to listen to it more than once.
Here's one more, from Steven Jesse Bernstein's. Prison, titled No No Man, Pt. 1.

Egads, Mr. Guru. After so many elegant and witty pieces here, I refuse to believe that you listen to that at home. For fun. |

The Soft Boys - 'The Queen of Eyes'
(Punk/New Wave band who sound more late 60s in this outstanding track that you've never heard before but have now thanks solely to me!)

Depeche Mode - 'In Your Room' (the single) circa 1994.

(Most of Mode's best stuff was in the 90s - not the 80s) |

Soft Boys rock! Glad to see someone posted 'em. So here is Robyn Hitchcock of the Soft Boys. More of a novelty song tho.

David Gilmour of Pink Floyd thinks Mike Oldfield and Maggie Reilly's "Moonlight shadow" was the best song of the 80s.
It's definitely one of them I think.....

Ok, got my bandwidth back finally.
Now. People have been getting out of hand. The rules are no review, no post. That is, if you haven't listened to someone else's song, and are not willing to comment on it, you have no right to post a song of your own. Freeloaders. And no more sh*tty youtube, ok? I'm looking at you, Rteacher. Your music sucks.
Woland, your Moon Music is good, solid rock. Nice. Did anyone end up hearing that Elis Regina song I posted?
Anyway, here's a sweet song: William S. Burroughs/Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy - Words of Advice for Young People
"Beware of whores who say they don't want money. The hell they don't. What they mean is they want more money. Much more."

"Old fool sold his soul for a strap-on." Brilliant! I love spoken poetry put to music, tho not rap. Pitty there is so little out there. You'd think Henry Rollins would try it out.
There is a time in my life I would have thought those Nina Hagen clips of Jongno were great, but not now. Pacifier earings, never a good sign.
And "Moonlight Shadow" best of the 80s? Sure it was hardly a great decade for music, but that to me is hardly the best, but it is a nice tune. |

This is a review? I'm sure the "research paper" kept you from fully expressing your appreciation. That, or you've simply been rendered speechless in awe.
But, since I'm easily moved to generosity, here's some more Turkish rock:
If you liked Istanbul, here's another Pamela song, Gecmis Olsun. Gecmis olsun is one of those phrases that peppers Turkish speech. It literally means 'May it already have passed' and used for both 'get well' and 'congratulations' when people have done something difficult, like passed their thesis defense. I heard it a lot after my divorce.
Two songs from the woman I consider the leading genius of the current Turkish music scene, Sebnem Ferah. The first, Yagmurlar (Rain), is one of her few songs which she did not write entirely on her own. This is co-written with the queen of Turkish pop, Sezen Aksu. It's an early work and doesn't rock as hard as her later work. She's also the guitarist here and all the vocal parts (in all her songs) are her. The second is another early piece, Kalbim (My Heart), which I think shows off her voice even better.
Before Sebnem Ferah went solo, she was part of Turkey's first all female rock n roll band, Volvox. The keyboardist for that band, Ozlem Tekin has gone on to have her own solo career. She's a bit funkier than Sebo, as heard in this song, Hep Yek.
And lastly, Burcu Gunes' Sinifta Kal. Normally, Burrcu Gunes sings this dance pop treacle that other people write. But this song she wrote herself is one of only two pieces of Turkish surf rock I know of.
PS Glad to hear you got your bandwidth back, gaj.

Yeah, I hadn't actually listened to it when I made that post. Just thought I should 'review' something lest I be accused of hypocrisy.
And it wasn't a 'research paper'. It was a research proposal. |

You're too fast, gaj. You beat my little edit, intended to make my joking intentions clear.
You get a pass on the review this time, but the homework is piling up. Oh, well - after the research proposal. Priorities. |
