Kurt Cobain tops dead celeb earnings list
Deceased Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain has topped the list of Forbes.com's top-earning dead celebrities, relegating Elvis Presley to second place.

From October 2005 and October 2006, Cobain earned $50m, compared to Presley's earnings of $42m.

The list has been published for the last six years and Forbes.com bases its totals on licensing deals for using the deceased celebrities' work or image in advertising.

This was Cobain's first appearance on the list and was due to the fact that his widow, actress/singer Courtney Love, recently sold a 25% stake in Nirvana's song catalogue to a music publishing company.

Yeah I was just reading that on the BBC (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/6082966.stm) as well. Bigger than Elvis or John Lennon... The guy is a legend.

in terms of an essence of something

What exactly was Nirvana's essence? Their entire style was copied. They didn't STAND for anyting. In Kobains own words he was just trying to "record the greatest pop song ever".... get a fucking clue. The industry wanted to sell you mind numbing bullshit and you bought it.

As for Kobains appearance on the most selling artist.. it was his first time on the list ever... and Love just sold a portion of his catalogue. Basically his estate earned a butt load of cash over the song catalogue and he eclipsed well established artists. He isnt a legend. He's a fucking bum.

McCartney is a billionaire. Jackson is too. Kobain won't have that kind of money ever.

Maybe we can continue our critique of Nirvana, and more general music matters, over in the Off-Topic forum? There's a Kurt thread ready and waiting!

I didnt. All I know is that you don't know dick about dick about music.

And you responded negatively when I said you were a mainstream *beep*.

PS... House music sucks ass. So does trance. Why? Because assholes like you can sit around with a keyboard and a computer and call yourselves musicians.

The Back Street Boys weren't a band. Nirvana was. Satori is too. Master of the skin flute.

*beep* Nirvana.

N3ptune, you've obviously been doing to much flogging to pictures of Kurt Cobain in drag, and have become jealous and bitter. Just cuz no one else loves you either doesn't mean we will pity your stupidity here. Now STFU.

My history was for scarsdale yank, so why do you even respond?

But after reading my history you still want to contend that Im not a real musician? Are you serious? Look, I was a full time professional musician for a period of my life. No day job, no bar job or cafe job, I paid the bills for several years just off being a musician. You should try that sometime and see how easy it is... Rolling Eyes

So now you`ve written off Nirvana, Massive Attack and Portishead, House music, Trance music, and basically the whole of the 90`s. Man, you have your finger on the pulse. I bet if you called up Rolling Stone they would offer you a high paying job as a rock critic immediately without asking any more questions...

I am somewhat surprised that N3ptne hasn't been tagged as a troll and left to the darkness of his ignorance.

And I'll just say now, that I don't even really like Nirvana very much. But I'm capable of removing myself from the equation enough to know a great band when I see one. That's what serious rock critics have to do. Not saying I'm a serious rock critic, but you get the point. It's not all about you...

Gee I dunno... something about it being my thread....

I didn't write off portishead, or massive attack.

Just house music, trance, and most of the 90s. Why? It was a terribly dull period for music if you look at what was mainstream accessible. Mind numbing bullshit.

I listen to real music.. I get off on shit like Webern. Zappa.

Hell... I listen to Nirvana. I enjoy Nirvana. I listen to House. I listen to Trance and Techno. I party to it... but I don't say it was good. Thats where our difference is. Most of it is uncreative snot.

What pisses me off is when people like you, "professional musicians" who don't know the first fucking thing about music come along and start touting the greatness of mediocre uninteresting bands and then rely on your glorified history to sound like you know the first thing. *beep* Nirvana.
