Cats back home weren't this freaked out by people. Sometimes they'd come towards you in an almost friendly manner, as though a cat could be friendly. Often they'd scurry off.

Here they looked freaked out and scared for their lives, every time, everywhere. I wonder why cats are so on edge here in Korea? Nobody's cooking them are they?

Koreans (at most of them) view cats as evil creatures. Why? I do not know.

Ah yes, cats are predators. They are not really interested in people. They are very self-centered. Do they have moods? Maybe. But nothing like dogs. Dogs get sad when they feel your sadness. Dogs actually care about you. Cats do not care much about their owners, maybe a little after a while, realizing that's where food et al comes from. Cats don't care much for human affection. Dogs are entirely different. Dogs really have feelings and moods and can feel what their keepers are going through.

Cats are cool though. They'll keep the mice away.

we've got a korean house cat. he's got an awesome personality, doesn't run away from people, loves attention and sleeps at our feet at night. but as soon as the sun comes up, he starts running around and screaming because he doesn't want us to go to work. it's sweet, in a way... but i've got such a headache today.

he also screams like a banshee when we leave the house. so we're going to get him a kitty friend. maybe it's just being alone that he dislikes.

It might also have something to do with the fact that come people beat up on street cats.

And also like to stamp the ground and say 가!! whenever they see a cat. I know one cat that likes everybody but she lives in a parking lot where the 20-something guys that work there always give her food.

I think it has something to do with foxes and evil spirits. Some asian countries see foxes as evil spirits. Cats are feline, but the two may be connected somehow. Some Koreans I've talked to do say there is something "evil" about them.

Thing that gets me is a great many are tailless! In Taiwan, near all streetcats didn't have a tail. I guess it was a close brush with a dog.

These cats are wild animals. They do what they can to survive. People aren't always helpful to their survival.

I've known many stray kittens that were adopted at a young age and turned out to be extremely loving pets.

If people kicked you, yelled at you, hit your friends and family, threw things at you, caught and killed others like you and tortured some boiling alive to drink the water of guts like yours...

then you'd be scared of people too.

Hard not to be paranoid when they ARE out to get you!

There's no context of trust in their upbringing.
