aka 'The Best Chick Flick For Guys Ever Made'

Sadly, it does not star Kurt Russell.

Oh, we on the same page there; but Valerie Chow deserves some shizzine:

BTW, for clarification: Chungking Express is THE de jure chick flick for the discerning gentleman. I will not argue this. Stand By Me and The Shawshank Redemption come close...but they do not feature unbelievably hot women.

Furthermore, films such as Say Anything and, well...Say Anything 's the only one I can think of at the moment (I'm busy cooking spaghetti)...are more chick flicks that guys like, rather than "chick flicks for guys."

Naw.

Check out "Shanghai Express" 1932. Marlene Dietrich

Josef von Sternberg gets really exotic here with Marlene Dietrich and the story of her adventures on a train en route to Shanghai, where she is reunited with a lover who jilted her (Clive Brook). When the train is overtaken by Chinese rebels, Brook is held hostage and the rebel leader (Warner Oland of Charlie Chan fame) takes a liking to Dietrich. The notorious adventurer fiendishly strikes a bargain to save Brook, whom she's never stopped loving. This is one of the most intriguing von Sternberg-Dietrich films not only because of its exotic style and setting but because of its passionate love story. (from Amazon)

No way that's a better CFforGs film than CKE. If you want to take it to the old school, Casablanca is the undisputed champeen. But it's still not a better CFforG film than CKE, even though it might be a better film overall.

Might be.

Not talkin' CF for G. Talkin' Dietrich. One of the best (and sexiest) women in flicks.

(You might--or might not--enjoy her brawl with Una Merkel in 'Destry Rides Again'.)

My favorite role of hers is as the widow of a German officer opposite Spencer Tracey in 'Judgement at Nuremburg'. Knowing that she left her home when the Nazis came in and didn't return for 30 years adds an extra current of emotion to her role as the dignified but poor widow.

When I was a kid and a million dollars meant a million dollars, her legs were insured for a million bucks with Lloyd's. Not to be sneezed at. Or on.

But I do thank you for the heads up on CKE. Always in the market for a worthy new film even if it is in (yuck!) color.

I don't know, Mr. Action,

To each his own certainly, but 'butch' is such a subjective judgement. Anyone who isn't interested in a 6' blond chick (before she puts on the stilleto heels) who walks around the streets of Greeley, Colorado at 3AM to practice her whip action for Genet's play "The Maids" is foregoing a unique (shall we say) experience. The whip was ONLY for the play, but just the idea is stimulating in its way. Very Happy
