Hi all. Just arrived a few weeks ago from good old cananda and are living in Daegu. Where are the good hang outs? I went to this bar called Thunderbirds.....but it was just full of guys.....should be called thunderdick haha....quite boring really.....it seemed to be full of long termers..........but of course had the token 2 or three fat canadian ladies!!!
where are the good bars to go to with GIRLS...........!!!
Any info would be great.......

I got charged $4 for a coke in Thunderbird bar last week. And I wouldn't mind but the guy took an OPEN can of coke from the fridge, poured it in to a glass and then asked me for 4000 won without flinching. That SUCKS.

Try commune, old skool, frogbar ...

The three main foreigner bars in downtown Daegu are Thunderbirds (good for watching sports with the guys), Commune (good for music), and Itaewon (good for watching soldiers fighting).

The Commune had better music.

Itaewan Crew Club has a pool table.

The Thunderbird has an upstairs and a down stairs.
The house beer was little better, red something.

Also accross Ay Yang gyo (bridge) near Dong Chong there is a little quiet bar called the hole in the wall, it's all that's left of the once lively K2 Vill.

The Commune should be renamed Cancer Central. I'd preferred going to a bar just around the corner from the MBC buiding in Suseong-Gu. I wish I could remember the name.

It's been ages since I've seen and heard such a concentration of loud, obnoxious, North American males as I did between 12-2am Saturday night at the Thunderman. During other times it might be a decent place to enjoy a quiet, over-priced drink, but at peak hour I'd much rather be drinking with Koreans, to be perfectly honest. Damn I can't believe what annoying company 20-something American and Canadian males can be with a little bit of alcohol in them. And almost every one of the over-30 crowd there looks like such a complete and utter slob. It's like I'm the only guy over 30 who knows how to shave or has had a haircut in the past four months. Where the hell do these slobs work where Koreans would hire people who look like them? And don't even get me started about some of the __ [you guess] Canadian and American women.

Some K gal told me that the Bubble Bar is a good place to go. I never tried it and I'm not in Daegu anymore. But why don't you give it a shot and tell us how it is.

I think if you want to meet nice girls, you have to go to the bars where Koreans hang out. Don't go to the foreigners bars. Too many tramps go there.

Yu_Bum_Suk - I agree with you. Unfortunately, that's the experience I've had with many of the Westerner bars in Korea. I think it's better to just go out with a few people you know, rather than ending up being stuck with a bunch of North American losers. That's one good thing about Koreans - they may drink too much, but at least they don't end up as obnoxious and unpleasant, and occasionally violent, like North Americans (in particular) are capable of being.

As for clubs in Daegu - they're all pretty much the same. Bubble and Frog are owned by the same company and are very similar, with Frog being the bigger of the two. Gypsy Rock is probably the biggest club in Daegu, and is famous as the place where Korean girls go to meet American soldiers. Other places such as Old Skool and Monkey Club offer the same kind of fare. Different places, such as those offering other music than hip hop are hard to come by, but every now and then a place will have a "special" night, which usually just means it will be pretty much empty.

4,000 won for a cup of soda is not unusual in the club-bar scene in Daegu. Koreanized hip-hop dance clubs are not even worth the taxi ride to get there.
