It won't be that easy. Islam is not going to be easily accepted by educated critically thinking people, but then again, Westerners are losing that ability too.

Lot of dumb brainwashed people in the world today.

That absolutely takes the cake for the most ironic post EVER posted on this site.

Absolutely. Like Laigaiguk or Ddeubel. The dumbing down of the west has been ongoing for some time. The brainwashing too..thanks to the mass media. The stripping away of christianity, a new moral/ spiritual vacuum: The west is finally wide open for islamic expansion.

Not saying much for Christianity if people would rather turn to Islam (which I consider an even more stupid religion, if that is possible).

I honestly don't get the "rocking horse" part of that? Pretty sad response though.

I'm reading your comment as saying Christianity is a stupid religion (I'll let others defend Islam). I'll bite. Why is Christianity stupid?

laogaiguk, what country you from?

I've heard quite a bit of bigotry here and in other teacher related forums. The profession, outside the Western countries at least, seems to draw those types. Those that most likely have a tought time holding down a decent jobs with those kinds of views.

If you're from the West, calling Christianity a stupid 'religion' isn't the smartest thing you'll say, not only because Christianity isn't a religion, but criticising what made where your from what it is [or was] is like being from Texas and criticising the Dallas Cowboys.

It's an entire theory of life based on a 2000 year old storybook written to control the ignorant masses by people 400 years after all the events actually took place. That alone makes Christianity stupid. Just to make sure, I am not saying believing in God, or a god, or living a good, honest life is stupid, which it isn't, only that Christianity itself, a useless, backwater, ignorant custom of trying to find some sense of God, is. Though I am agnostic, and while not trying to find a god, I am not trying to find the lack of one either. That is obviously not a mainstream opinion, yet.

Does this view extend to Judaism? Hinduism? Buddhism? I'm not suggesting that it must follow from what you have said that it does, nor am I trying to trap you, I'm just curious as to whether you think most religions are out-moded or not, or if there is a prominent exception.

Oh yes, even Buddhism, though I don't consider that so much a religion as a philsophy and better than any other I know of. I won't even touch Hinduism with a 10 foot pole! And no, I didn't learn everything I know about Hinduism from Apu at the Kwikie Mart Smile

Yes, I think religions are outmoded and dying in the educuated world. I think they will be replaced by philosophies in the future, but even those will die out. In the end, people will stop constraining themselves based on things like that (you don't need a 2000 year old book to know murder is bad) or we will annihilate ourselves. I am hoping for choice A.

I harp on Christianity because it annoys me personally the most and I know the most about it.

Yep, you're insightful.

This 2000 year old book with an expired shelf life sure controlled those masses didn't it. Those 12 men turned the known world upside down and sacrificed their lifes for a storybook.

Still doing it today in places like China.

Talk about brainwashed bigotry.

Gee...... agnostic, that makes you a genius I guess. And anyone who thinks a book is stupid just because it's old is a critical thinker.

Maybe we should stop reading Shakespeare too, it's gotta be reaching the end of its shelf life too.

You still repeating that long rebutted false hearsay? That kind of ignorance could be understood B.I. [before internet] but no excuse other than bigotry now. And ignorance.

Laigowgooks silly opinions and startling ignorance is legendary on here. All subjects with him inevitably turn to an attack on christianity. In his book, being offered a leaflet on the street amounts to the severest act of oppression in history. But of course beheading women rumoured to have cheated on their husbands is quite Ok by him.

His sheer ridiculousness is why its fun to bait him on a weekly basis- but also because such misguided thinking is actually starting to predominate in the west believe it or not. Mostly among 12 year olds.

hhahahaa... you don't know jack Laughing

This is going of topic thanks to Lggk, but I suppose the western shedding of christianity does relate to the general surrender of civilisation to a far less sophisticated culture. When christianity was strong in the west, Islam trembled. Now the moral and spiritual vacuum is temporarily filled by trendy folks following a mixed bag of fashionable beads and creeds, but soon to be replaced by the vicious dogma of the moon god allah. One giant step backwards for mankind. To the 7th c. to be exact.

I saw this quote in my internet travels today. I don't know anything about the person who said it, or the context in which it was said (if you want to know just ask dd as I'm sure he camped in Samoa with the author back when he was white..) but it seemed fitting for the recent discussion on this thread.

Quote:
If religion were true, its followers would not try to bludgeon their young into an artificial conformity; but would merely insist on their unbending quest for truth, irrespective of artificial backgrounds or practical consequences.

- H. P. Lovecraft
