Actually, there are about 6 billion people in the world, and three billion are either Christian or Muslim.

Both of them view Jesus as a holy person.

I refuse to back up my claims and I'm not even sure how many Muslims view Jesus as being holy. But anyway...

My comment was not about the Bible or anyone's beliefs. Read more carefully.

This thread got me wondering if wearing an Mp3 player might help avoid situations like this. We didn't have them when I lived in Korea (95-99) but I wonder what you guys think?

Btw, good job OP. Wink

Walkmans were out of style, heavy and bulky. I had a discman but I used it at home because I didn't like lugging it around. Mp3 players are small and light. Confused

Some clarifications...

1. Jihad does not mean crusade. I think you know that gaj, but just a reminder for the kiddies. The root of jihad means endeavour and can be applied to all kinds of situations. I have a friend who when growing up "waged" jihad on her schoolwork in order to get scholarships in uni.

2. To Muslims, Issa(Jesus) is one of the holy prophets of which Muhammad is the last. He is respected and venerated by all Muslims, but they do not believe he was the son of god(obviously, as that's just wack-o talk) nor do they believe he rose from the dead(again...cuckoo). You will find some Muslims display animosity toward Christians, as many of them feel Christians have perverted the message and image of Christ, who is often seen as the "nice" pacifist, perhaps slightly naive, brother to Muhammad--with Muhammad being the boy who gets things done in the real world. However, Muslims certainly believe that Issa had the faith right, and his followers are the ones that have screwed things up since.

3. I think the whole pastor thing is just rabid evangelical meets rabid xenophobe meets whitey on the train. Evangelical Christians are a pretty unhinged set as it is, toss on a dash of uri nara, stir in some "teach me English" and...is your wife Korean?, I didn't notice...but if so, season it all with some "get your hand out of my pureblood pocket" and it's a recipe for subway antics--especially as it's all boiled up in a healthy stock of inferiority complex. Sizzle. Bubble.

What? You refuse to accept Jesus Christ as your personal savior?

Well, you should be cussed at!

In fact, you should be cornholed and shot this very instant!

How do you expect to make it to heaven?

Now find this man and apolize! Right this instant, mister!

In fact, I'm so angry that I'm reporting you to my boss for your audacious behavior.

Memo. Call Chuck and report dude love.

You'll never wear an ascot in this town again, my friend!

Couldn't one plead ignorance and act like some clueless foreigner who has no idea what you are talking about? I remember I was in a hurry to get a bite to eat at KFC and two Korean gentlemen tried to stop me for a second, and I know almost no Korean, so I didn't why I needed to stop, so I said sorry I don't know Korean and walked out distance, but I did hear the word "Jesus" as I was leaving.

Recently, someone from a certain bizarre Evangelical church knocked on my door. According to a mate of mine, they are some cult that talks about doom, and they have this notion of a certain group of people being saved. Anyway, I didn't fully open my door, and I quickly said I am not interested in any proselytizing, and when they commented on the Canadian sign on my door and said "Ah, you are Canadian", and I didn't acknowledge that, and said "thank you very much, but I am a Catholic, have a good day". I said it one more time and closed the door. They got the message. I am sure there are certain Jedi mind tricks one can use with these people.

I am aware of the argument that "jihad" also applied to situations related to striving. However, physical jihad in the sense of using it for combat in the name of religion relates to the middle ages Catholic fighting of the Crusades without the killing of civilians that happened. In fact, many of the Muslims who perceive themselves as using this form of jihad resemble the ancient Crusaders. It is ironic? Anyway, you can't deny that there is a special place in heaven in the Islamic paradigm for holy warriors who are called mujahideen. Crusade also can mean doing things for Christ and not necessarily related to violence. For example, there is an organization called Campus Crusade for Christ. It is not an organization where people are carrying weapons and shooting people of other faiths.

As far as Issa whose Islamic name most probably derives from the Greek (Hellenic) Issos, you stated was viewed as a pacifist. He was generally pacific. I don't think even Islam disputes this. There is no Islamic account of Jesus launching wars, fighting Romans or the like. So, how are Christians off-base? Yes, it may sound preposterous that Jesus could arise from the dead. That is a matter of faith just as Muslims believe
Mohammed flew from Mecca to Jerusalem on the buraq at night and went to the heavens. That is called Al Isra' wal Mi'raj. It is kind of curious how one of the most popular Suras of the Quran called Al-Fatiha strongly resembles the prayer Jesus told Christians to pray in the New Testament which is called "the Lord's Prayer". Even if Christians perverted the message of Jesus as Muslims claim, it does not justify animosity anymore than a woman wearing immodest clothing justifies as rape as an imam in Sidney stated.

Anyway, the poster didn't seem like a xenophobic fellow. He was just tired and didn't want to be harassed by someone proselytizing to him.

A pastor got really angry and told you to F -- off? WOw, that is a good story.

I don't like being approached by church people either. Who does?

I guess it would be easier to just lie.

I've done this twice in the last 10 days. The jesus vampires don't seem to care though; they still want to invite me to their church so I can help their Nigerian cousin rescue a large sum of money.

Christianity does offer a nice kind of way to get out of guilt of things. You can do anything you want, and Jesus will always forgive you. Maybe he didn't have a grave, but the guy is a couple millennia dead, prophet or son of God or not.
