I'm doing a story game with my kids, using a story I wrote at lunch with one of my favourite students. First I tell the story as dramatically as I can, getting a volunteer to read the Hanguel. Then I break them into groups of four. Each group chooses a writer and only she is allowed to write. I post the sentences from the story on sheets of paper around the room and the other memebers of the group have to run around the room, trying to remember bits of each sentance, and then going back to tell the writer what to write on her story fill-in-the-blank sheet. Every group that finishes or makes a good attempt gets candy and the group that finishes first gets Halloween ballons.

Here's our story - if you wish to plagiarise please feel free:


1. It was October 31st and Minji felt very strange as she sat in her evening class. Outside it was dark, the wind was howling and rain was pouring down.

10월 31일 민지는 저녁 보충시간에 이상한 기분이 들었다. 바깥은 어두워 졌고 바람은 세게 불고 비가 내렸다.

2. �Kim Minji� she heard a strange voice whisper slowly in her ear. She turned around quickly but no one was there. It was very strange.

�김민지� 라고 속삭이는 소리가 천천히 그녀의 귀에 들렸다. 민지는 빠르게 뒤로 돌아보았지만 거기에는 아무도 없었다. 매우 이상했다.

3. A few minutes later she heard �Kim Minji� again and felt someone touch her neck. She quickly turned her head around only to see Kim Minju sitting behind her, fast asleep.

잠시후 그녀는 �김민지�라고 부르는 소리를 다시 들었고 누가 그녀의 목을 만지는 것 같은 기분이 들었다. 그녀는 뒤에 앉아있는 김민주를 뒤 돌아 보았지만 그녀는 잠들어 있었다.

4. Mrs. Kim�s lesson was so boring. Soon Minji was fast asleep, too. Suddenly she heard a strange noise and jumped out of her seat. The room was dark and she was all alone.

김 선생님의 수업은 매우 지겹웠다. 민지도 곧 잠이 들었다. 갑자기 그녀는 이상한 소음을 들었고 자리에서 갑자기 일어섰다. 교실은 어두웠고 그녀는 혼자 남아있었다.

5. There was a weird flash of light and then she felt someone stroke her hair. She was too afraid to turn around. �Kim Minji, do you remember me?� she heard a female voice whisper in her ear.

이상한 빛이 반짝거렸고 그녀는 누군가 그녀의 머리카락을 잡고 있는 것 같은 기분을 느꼈다. 그녀는 돌아보기가 무서웠다. �김민지. 너 나 기억해?� 그녀는 속삭이는 여자의 목소리를 들었다.

6. She didn�t recognize the voice. She slowly turned to the side to see a young woman with huge scars by her mouth. Blood was dripping from her mouth and she was holding a big knife covered in blood.

그녀는 그 목소리를 알아차리지 못했다. 그녀는 그녀는 천천히 돌아보았고, 입쪽에 찢어진 상차가 있는 여자를 보았다. 그녀의 입에서는 피가 흐르고 있었고 피가 묻은 큰 칼을 들고있었다.

7. �I am the Red Menace� said the woman. �Do you think I�m pretty? Don�t lie to me.� Minji didn�t know what to say. She had heard that if you say �no� she would slash her mouth to make her look just like she did, but if you lied, she killed you.

�나는 빨간 마스크야.�라고 그녀가 말했다. �너 내가 예쁘다고 생각하니? 나한테 거짓말 하지마.� 민지는 무슨 말인지 알수가 없었다. 그녀는 만약 아니라고 말한다면 빨간 마스크가 그녀를 빨간 마스크처럼 만들 거라고 하는 말을 들었다. 그러나 거짓말을 하면 빨간 마스크는 그녀를 죽일 것이다.

8. �Ummm� Ummm� I don�t know,� stammered Minji. �Yes you do!� replied the Red Menace. �Do you think I�m pretty?!?� Suddenly she felt a sharp slap across her arm.

�음�음..잘 모르겠어요.� 민주가 더듬거리며 말했다. �네 당신은 예뻐요�. 빨간 마스크가 대답했다. �너 내가 예쁘다고 생각하니?!?� 갑자기 그녀는 그녀의 팔이 날카로운 것에 의해 상처가 나는걸 느꼈다.

9. She looked up and Mrs. Kim was standing there holding her stick. The lights were on and everyone was sitting at her desk. �How dare you fall asleep in my class!� barked Mrs. Kim. Minji sat up and bowed and breathed a sigh of relief. It had all just been a nightmare.

그녀는 매를 들고 서있는 김 선생님을 보았다. 불은 켜져 있었고, 모두가 그녀를 보며 앉아있었다. �어떻게 감히 내 수업시간에 잘 수 있지?�라고 김 선생님이 소리쳤다. 김민주는 일어나서 죄송하다고 사과 하고 안도의 한숨을 쉬었다. 그것은 정말 좋지않은 꿈이었다.
