Yeah they photo it and upload the photo to their cyworld page or whatever. I wouldn't call it pride: they're just obsessed with food and eating here. |
Koreans are obsessed with food, in any Korean movie you see, food will have an important role. In binding relationships, food and drinks are paramoun, it is the feeling of sharing food that increases their conenction with each other.
Food also had an important historical cultural influence on the Korean people. They are proud of their food, and they have the right to be so. Their pallete is quit unique in N-E Asia. |
Bit like the Italians then? |

| Man I really wanna go to Cheolla. Sounds like good eatin', and they can teach me how to speak all funny-like. |
Cheolla is pretty nice, check out the Moses miracle of Jindo (the parting of the ocean/landing tide), it's a great excuse to go. Some of the best Korean feasts I've ever had were down there, and there's a lot of beautiful countryside there to boot.
Damn the Gyeongsan-do people for keeping them down all those years! |

| Thanks to this thread, all day long I've been thinking about the 콩나물 side dish. Probably my favorite of all. |

i find it hilarious watching the people at costco putting a big pile of onions, ketchup and mustard on their plates and eating it like a side dish. heck, anything for free... i wouldn't call it a condiment anymore because of the way they eat it. they don't put it on something else and they don't dip food into, rather they just mix it up and eat it with a fork.
but these things can of course go both ways. i remember eating kalbi with some friends and somebody decided to place the raw crab (side dish) on the grill as well. the ajumma can over and just about died when she saw it! she actually seemed upset about it |
I was out with some Korean co-workers and they did exactly that. Ajumma could've given a rat's ass. Man, I won't eat raw crab after I read about that teacher that got lung flukes from eating raw crab and died. |
