I was thinking of sending a care package to my fiancee in the States and was wondering if there are any issues that I should be aware of (i.e. taxes, etc.). I was thinking of sending some souvenirs, maybe a jewelry box, T-shirts, etc. No electronics tho. I'm assuming I don't have to pay any sort of excise tax but I wanted to be sure. Any other advice would be helpful. Thanks.

I shipped a camera from the US to Italy for an ebay sale and the guy told me to put gift on the form to avoid tax.

I remember a story about people putting gift on packages sent to Germany after world war 2 and it scared people because gift means poison in German. -Jeff

I've sent gifts to my mom twice a year and never paid tax. My advice is make sure to pack the box well. If you mail it off in the next week you can send it slow boat and it will still get there by Christmas.
