Poll: Americans don't want politicians constraining judges
It's nice to see. I am pretty sure Canada is the same, and while I don't always agree with the judges (especially in sentences sometimes), I think they have made both countries better. More so than the governments in either  |

Survey wording always plays an important role.
For example, when asked if the government should spend more money on schools, most Americans say "yes." When asked if they want to pay more taxes to support schools, they usually say "no."
Asked if they want politicians constraining judges, they'll say no. And I bet if you asked them if they wanted judges setting public policy, they'd say no. Or if they agreed with judges legalizing gay marriage, they'd say no.
That's why polls should always be taken with a big grain of salt and the wording carefully examined. It can make all the difference in the world. |
