Probably the reason the series only played the instrumental version.

My wife has a T-shirt that says, "Addicted to Shopping". She knows exactly what it means.

For me, one of the funniest commercials used N.E.R.D.'s Wonderful Place. It's kind of a happy-go-lucky tune with some cheerful whistles in the beginning, then Pharell Williams, in his best smooth-mack-pimp voice just says, "Daayum."

Korea's Suicide Rate Highest in OECD in 2005
The number of suicides rose to an all-time high of 12,000 last year as more people took their own lives amid economic hardship, recording the highest suicide rate among the 30 member countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).... South Korea also recorded the highest suicide rate among the OECD member countries.

South Korea also recorded the highest suicide rate among the OECD member countries. Hungary came in second with 22.6, followed by Japan with 20.3.

What was more alarming is that suicide topped the causes of deaths last year for 20-and 30-somethings who were supposed to actively participate in economic activities.... The leading causes of death for people under 20 were traffic accidents, while cancer and blood vessel-related diseases took a grater toll than other causes for people aged 40 or older.

It's called "Suicide Is Painless". The movie has the lyrics and they dropped the lyrics for the TV series.

Suicide is painless.
It brings on many changes.
But I can leave or take them as I please.

I don't remember the rest.

Wow, I didn't even notice that it wasn't Real Reality. The format looked just like his stuff.

There's a commercial on TV and I can't tell what it is for. They play a song with the lyrics, "It makes me want to kill myself."

What's up with that?

If I recall correctly, isn't it a shampoo ad or something equally opposite to the lyrics?

They look happy, right?

Quote:

Suicide is Painless

Through early morning fog I see,
Visions of the things to be,
The pains that are withheld for me,
I realize and I can see...

[REFRAIN]:

That suicide is painless.

It brings on many changes.

And I can take or leave it if I please.

I try to find a way to make,
All our little joys relate,
Without that ever-present hate,
But now I know that it's too late, and...

[REFRAIN]

The game of life is hard to play,
I'm gonna lose it anyway.
The losing card I'll someday lay,
So this is all I have to say.

[REFRAIN]

The only way to win is cheat,
And lay it down before I'm beat,
And to another give my seat,
For that's the only painless feat.

[REFRAIN]

The sword of time will pierce our skins.
It doesn't hurt when it begins.
But as it works its way on in,
The pain grows stronger...watch it grin, but...

[REFRAIN]

A brave man once requested me,
to answer questions that are key.
Is it to be or not to be?
And I replied 'Oh why ask me?'

[REFRAIN]

'Cause suicide is painless.

It brings on many changes.

And I can take or leave it if I please.

...And you can do the same thing if you choose.

I appreciate the research that some have done in the interests of this thread. 'Suicide is Painless' is entirely in keeping with the vicissitudes of the Korean War. But a bubbly K-girl selling real-estate against a background of 'I want to kill myself'? Incongruous, to say the least. Or maybe not. Given the suicide rate in this land, the higher your apartuh, the greater your chance of succeeding at the big splat when you hurl yourself off the balcony after getting only a 650 on your TOIEC.
