Hi,
I'm going to be staying in Seoul over the weekend and I would like to know folks' recommendations for a good walk-in travel agency (good English, shops for a good ticket) so I can buy my winter air ticket.
Please include directions.
I know I can buy a paper once in Seoul and look at the ads. But I'd rather get it all done face to face, ticket in hand when I return on Sunday.
Many thanks! |

Xanadu or Marco Polo in Itaewon. don't have the addresses, but have used them before.
Do a yahoo search under - marco polo OR Xanadu, Seoul. they both have websites with contact info.
Good service at both. Prices differed though. |

Xanadu Travel, Marco Polo and Unique Travel are all in the SAME building in Itaewon. Xanadu is on floor 6. The other two on floor 5. It is located just before Pizza Hut. It is quite feasible to go to the building after 10am on any Saturday and get quotes from all 3.
But there is no such thing as "walk in tickets" with any of those places - as in all cases they will take 24 to 48 hours to issue a ticket from the airline (so you will have to go back to pick it up).
The only people who can issue tickets "on the spot" are the airlines themselves. If it's Asiana or Korean Air, you could buy it straight from city air terminal at COEX where they both have ticket offices side-by-side.
Or if you know what airline it is, go straight to their office directly. |

I can not go into detail at this time but may be in a position to be more helpful in about two weeks. |

While they cannot issue the tickets on the spot, they will send them to you for free (registered mail, in my experience) when they are ready. |

I just used STA travel (located with TOP travel on 5thF of YMCA building next to Jonggak station) and they will send out your ticket by email (e-ticket) if you cannot come back to collect the ticket in person. Service and prices seemed fine. |

BTW, I just picked up a ROUND TRIP ticket to the UK (via Hong Kong) from STA (mentioned above) for just 500,000. Seems cheap, huh? However, there was added tax at 300,000 which apparently is a standard norm these days. Wherever did such tax come from??? I new airlines had fuel and security surcharges, but the last time I flew, tax was only something like 60,000! A big jump in tax imo! |
