I believe that it is positive that Al Jazeera had her on the air. That would not have happened say 20 years ago, though there have been plenty of Socialists from her country, Syria, that thought in a similar vein. She attacks, as backward, the stranglehold the Islamic laws have on the region almost as if it is spider's web (my words). However, she completely makes it as if there was a one-way attack between the Islamic world and the West. That is false. In her native Syria, the French took Alexandretta and simply ceded it to the Turks. There were many negative effects of colonialism. She also overrates the Jewish contribution to the world by making it seem as if they provided the majority of the scientists this world has had for the last few centuries. Certainly, the Jewish community has disproportionately contributed many positive things including scientific discoveries, and the people in the Islamic world should recognize that. I would also add that a big part of the West represents civilizantion vis-a-vis its own people, but often, when it comes to the outside world, there is often uncivilized behavior vis-a-vis the Eastern world. I am happy she was on T.V., none-the-less.

Mistake- I think it was on Memri Tv- a channel focussing on Arab research, broadcast by the US I think.

All the same I think you have to respect her opinion as a former Syrian muslim.

You can find Wafa Sultan's famous Al-Jazeera appearance here. Here is a link to the transcript of her Al-Jazeera appearance on the M.E.M.R.I. website. Here's are some of the more interesting remarks she made in the debate:

It is important that she was put on Al Jazeera in front of a large Arabic audience. Syria has had plenty of people who think like her, but no one had a "podium" like that before.

hence his attempt at making a joke. perhaps one loses his grasp of humor when living in Thailand.

Anyway, MEMRI TV Rapier/Junior? Dude, there is no such thing. MEMRI is an organization that concentrates on translating Arab and Iranian media that it feels bashes Israel.
