|
|
Hello all.
I need to buy a cell phone. I don't want the pre-paid plan.
Can anybody give me a rundown on the strengths and weaknesses for the three companies? I think they are Samsung, LG, and KT?
I don't call many people. I need it mostly for work.
I understand one of the companies has outstanding coverage...ie; anywhere in korea. I understand that one is a little more expensive. Another company I understand has slightly less coverage, but is also slightly less expensive.
Question. Do different companies charge different rates for local or long distance calls? WHat are the different base monthly rates?
thanks anyone for info. |

This may be a silly question but did you read through the sticky?
Advice- New and used cellphones, and payment plans

LG will let you have a plan but you need your passport, ARC and an acceptable bank account that they can use for your payments.
KTF will let you have a plan phone IF you have a Korean credit card.
SK will let you have a plan phone but you need to make a large deposit (200k won).
Plans, and in the metro areas coverage, are similar. Basic plans at all 3 start from 9k won and go up depending on extras. |

You should use LG Telecom because they don't demand a deposit and have the least red tape. I think a lot of the stuff in the sticky is probably out of date by now. |

The sticky is current (the oldest/first post was only May16 of this year (5 months or so old). Things haven't changed that much in the last 5 months. |

I have an LG phone and have had no problems so far. However, when you sign up make sure that you specify whether you want to pay by credit card each month or standing order.
When I signed up with my BANK BOOK they somehow made it so I was paying with my Korean credit card, which I don't have, and there was a lot or running around to get the payment method changed.
