My co-worker has had it with our school(as have I) and is leaving the end of December. His GF has a great job in Gangnam area, so they'd like to re-locate from Bucheon to Bundang. Can anyone help him out? Cheers!

I'm looking for advice on where the best place/suburb/area of Bundang is to live. By this I mean clean, new, easily accessible, decent shopping, and relatively foreigner friendly.

In an ideal world I would be looking for a new area with officetels close to the subway system near the main park down there. Sunae and Seohyeon stations seem to be around this area.

Any advice from people living or have lived in the area would be greatly appreciated.

Bundang is a sprawling metropolitan apartment wasteland with a Mr. Roger's neighborhood feel.

Well, a lot of Bundang is new. There are some older parts across the river in Jeongja and Sunae, but by older I mean "older."

Keep in mind much of Bundang looks the same. There's shopping everywhere, and of course the subway makes it really easy to get around the area.

The order I'd rank areas in Bundang:
1. Jeongja
2. Sunae
3. Migeum
4. Seohyeon
5. Yatap
6. Ori
83. Imae

All areas are okay, except Imae, which is completely lifeless and ought to be kicked out of Bundang.

Saw Bundang from up in a plane the other day. Looks totally freaky from up there.

Rent in Bundang proper is quite high as a general rule. My 6 pyung (real size, not advertised) officetel was like 5 million key money and 450k a month. Not even big enough for one person, bear in mind.

Key money for like 12-15 pyung when I did a bit of looking around in Sunae was like 60-70 million for no monthly rent. Again, this is just for an officetel. Not a bad size, but it gets to you after a while. The 6 pyung place I was in was I'm guessing between 30 and 40 million for no rent, I'm sure. Maybe more.

I wouldn't move out there unless you've got some nice cash stowed away. The Chica's grandmother and aunt live in Imae and got their apartment way back in the day when rent wasn't quite so high. Not a bad pad, but the key money to own is 1 million dollars. Not won. Dollars.

You may as well just be in Gangnam and close to work for prices like that. Or crash in Jamsil and ride down the bike trail to Bundang if you like the area that much...

Bundang is cool and 30 minutes from Seoul with good air. It is 10 minutes from what looks like country Korea and there is a pretty good scene of expats here. There is about 150 foreignors in my building and as far as eating out and partying goes it does ok....

Bundang is a great place to live, and you can find some nice officetels with lofts for great rent. One thing to remember is that there is a new train that will be opening sometime soon. It will go straight from Gangnam station to Jeongja station and only take 15 minutes. I also think Jeongja and Sunae are the best areas to live in and Jeongja is only getting better.

Jeongja is nice, but it's way overpriced for the average teacher here. I wouldn't mind living there, but there is absolutely nothing to do and it's a it inconvenient having to take the taxi or subway just to get to a bus station.

I'd recommend Seohyun, Migeum or Ori. All have shopping centers nearby, Seohyun is right next to Central Park, major bus stops, plenty of places to eat.

I had to put 10,000,000 down for my officetel and 600k/month for rent. I was told the utilities and maint. fee are around 150k/month.

I enjoy living here. I'm too busy during the week to get into Seoul, so I don't mind living away from the city. On the weekends, I can take a bus into Gangnam and get there within 15 minutes.

The direct subway they are building won't be operational until 2008 or 2009 I heard. When it's completed it will take about 15 minutes from Jeongja to Gangnam, so basically no difference compared with taking the bus from where I'm currently at.

Yeah, some of the rents aren't too out of control, especially in Migeum and Ori (and there's still some good deals in Jeongja). Plus, with Pangyo getting bigger, it'll be interesting to see what that does to prices.

You take the subway to get to bus stops? That's like bizarro world if you are in Bundang.

I didn't really know when that train line was opening, so a couple of more years and then it will be really prime real estate around Jeongja.

There is no way you can get from anywhere past Jeongja to Gangnam in 15 minutes. Last year, I lived in Sunae. Right in front of my building was the first/last bus stop after/before the highway stretch from/into Gangnam. If there was absolutely no traffic, it could only be 15 minutes. If there was any traffic, it was much longer and a sometimes it take 15 minutes from Yangjae to Gangnam station. I would still go to Jeongja first. It is constantly getting developed and it is only going to get better. There is still a lot of land there.

I was also like you though. I didn't go in during the week except for Tuesdays. On weekends I was always there. The only real downfall to Bundang is that you have to leave Seoul by a certain time or you are out all night. Buses from Gangnam still run until almost 2AM, but you are still risking it sometimes. Many a time, I was having a great time and then I had to leave because I needed to go home and I absolutely hate spending the whole night out.

I live right next to the bus stop at Seohyun, so it takes me about 1 minute to get to the bus stop, get on either 1005-1 or 1005-2 or a couple other buses. I can get to Yangjae in 9-11 minutes. Like you said though, if there is traffic then it can be really tough to get from Yangjae to Gangnam.

To me, Jeongja is boring for someone in their early/mid 20's. The food is good, but way overpriced, Jeongja is a family area, with nothing but huge apartments and cafe type places to eat.

Haha, I know what building you live in. That building is ultra-convenient. In fact, if you could just work at home, you would never have to leave that building.

There are some new kick-ass restaurants in Jeongja though. Try Oriental Spoon under the Paragon building. Some of the best restaurants I have eaten at in Korea were in Jeongja, and a lot of them aren't bad for price either.

It was a great place to bring women from Seoul and allow them to maintain their anonymity while entering the apartment building with "that foreigner" Wink

Sex is always more majestic when it takes place in "Acrotel." It's like a game show.
