Great Britain? We want our independence, say most Scots

The majority of Scots favour breaking away from the rest of the UK and embracing independence, according to a poll on the eve of the 300th anniversary of the Act of Union between Scotland and England.
The ICM poll showed support for Scottish independence running at 51 per cent, the first time since 1998, the year before devolution, that support for separation has passed the 50 per cent mark. Only 39 per cent of Scots are for the status quo, and 10 per cent said that they did not know whether they wanted independence, according to the poll of 1,000 voters north of the Border.

Congratulations to Scotland.

Most of our fore fathers who wanted a free Scotland, already left or were deported/ imprisioned and sent overseas. I hope one day to return to a Scotland that is free from English rule. The decendents can return to a Country called Scotland that has self rule or at the least has true autonomy.

Scotland could, perhaps, do well on its own with time. It may take time.
Anyway, Scotland is a country from whence came Andrew Carnegie, Alexander Graham Bell, Donald A. McDonald, and so many others. And don't forget Scotland Yard gots its name from a Scotsman.

The Scots want independence? Why is the much-needed break-up of the United Kingdom always plugged this way?

'Braveheart' - pathetically enough - gave rise to all this Scottish fervour - a god damn movie made by an Aussie!

Scotland - do us all a massive favour and f*** off. We'll see how long it is before you come crawling back because your economy is reliant on handouts.

I realize you're all very resentful of your big bad neighbour to the south (ring any bells, Canadians?) and you live and breath hatred of the English, but we've always had greater rivalries in the shape of France and Germany - all (respectively) 90 and 60 million of them. 5 million scots against 48 million Englishmen? Having a 'rival' as formidable and influential as England no doubt conjures up a flattering self-identity to the Scots, but Scotland certainly is no rival of England's and hasn't been for quite some time.

If they ever do get independence, what are they gonna do about their truly dire football situation? Join leagues with Belgium and Portugal in The Atlantic League - what ever happened to that idea?
