|
|
Sometimes i don't feel like cooking, or I am going out and don't know when I'll have time to stop...so I take along an MRE. I got a box of them in a Black market store in Busan once, but I'd like to find a place a little closer to home (Daegu). If someone could email me with this information, I'd appreciate it.

| Prowl around Camp Walker, Camp Henry. There should be a shop somewhere near there. |

Or talk to a supply ArmyMan and see if he can give you a good price on a box of MREs.
After a hurricane when I was in Florida the National Guard was giving case of them out. Some of them tasted quite good - just add water! |

Add water? I don't think you were eating an MRE...
OP, you do know that each MRE has about 3,000 calories, right? And certain ingredients meant to stop up the works so that you don't have to crap in your foxhole, right? The gum that comes with the MREs has laxative added so as to allow you to make your own determination as to when you are safe to evacuate.
Just thought you should know. |

The heating pad requires water. |

True, but I don't think that's what was meant. Who would use the heater out of the woods? |

Some of the MRE's giving out after the hurricanes required the added of water to start some chemical reaction that cause the food to get hot.
Usually meat items were like pot roast and beef stew.
Other MREs were just lots of finger food in a box - chicken salad spread, crackers, granola bar, juice, things like that. |

The food required water...or the heater? |

Yes, I am aware that everything in the package adds up to about 3000 calories...I am not planning on eating them every day, or even often. They are just good to have in an emergency or when going out and I might be stuck in a hotel room or something.
Still haven't seen a definitive place to get them.

| The food actually required the water. once you mixed the water and the food packet it got hot - pretty cool to watch. |

Add water to the freeze-dried food like the mixed fruit, but it doesn't heat it up. Only that heater pad does that when you add water.
BTW, the coffee creamer is highly flammable and if you smash the heater pad when it's dry, place it in a closed container and THEN add water, it'll explode.
I understand there's even a better selection and even a vegetarian version now. Nice! "Back in MY day.....!" Course can't compare to C-rations I'm sure or hardtack way back when, but the one constant: SPAM. SPAM will outlive all other foods. And Tabasco! (Do MRE's still contain those little bottles of Tobasco?) |
