Those crazy face on mars people keep claiming to see in the martian inkblots all manner of faces, pyramids, forts, cities, etc. There's a known brain phenomenon called pareidolia where our brains are hardwired to see faces. When you're a baby, two fuzzy eyes and a fuzzy mouth and fuzzy nose holes probably means mom and means food. Ya know?
Of course the mars face people make the claim there's no way nature could create such structures. Well, behold:
The Aztec (or African) Woman of Medicine Hat, Alberta. Made by nature, in nature.
(The Bible Code guy claimed if such messages could be found in Moby Dick, he would be convinced he was wrong. Of course, such messages were found in Moby Dick. Of course, the Bible Code author didn't retract.) |

I've seen clouds so vivid in their images that it borders on a mystical experience. |

Yeah I have to wonder what kind of drugs that 'Google Earther' was on to notice that. I'm not knockin drugs, I'm just sayin..
But this is what really gets my goat is writing like this:
Well, "Supergranny" has made an incredible find that has the stone-faced boys over at Mount Rushmore shaking in their boots -- or, I suppose, their collars:
Was it really necessary, the whole dashed koohoo song and dance? Why could the writer not have just said "has the stone-faced boys over at Mount Rushmore shaking in their collars"? Does s/he presume the readers are too stupid to pick up on the point?
It reminds me of a paper regarding corporate environmental concerns I wrote in college where my professor objected to one of my concluding lines: It appears that, to most corporations, the bottom line is the bottom line. She said it was too confusing. What??
Down with dumbed-down writing!

Reminds me of the joke where the guy goes to a shrink to get a diagnosis. The shrink has him look at ink blots and the patient sees naked, pornographic images in all of them. The doctor concludes: "You sir, have a dirty mind!" The patient responds: "What?! You're the one drawing all the dirty pictures!" |
