Retreat? I don;t think that the realization that "winning" the war does not fall under WWII standards of victory equals retreat.

Does anyone remember, back when the war first started, all of the people saying that Iraq would come to be a quagmire equivalent to Vietnam? Most Americans, myself included, thought that that was not possible. However, that is exactly what has happened. Americans are dying there. For what now? Nothing. We wanted to get rid of Saddam. Done. We wanted to prevent Iraq from getting WMDs or get rid of the ones they had. Done. We wanted their petrole..... No, we didn't want their oil. We wanted to establish a democracy (In a place that has no concept of or desire for democracy). Done.

I'm a Democrat, and I think on this board loving the U.S. equals being a fundamentalist Christian Republican. However, I only hope that the Democrats sweep the elections. People say this is a referendum on Iraq. It is. It's not "retreat," it's be reasonable about the goals of the war.

Since, we have lost all of the rights we as Americans have stood for for so long. And, we have destroyed the system of checks and balances which prevents the U.S. from becoming a dictatorship (Thanks, D1ck Cheney!). We have, in six years, destroyed the best parts of the U.S. We now torture people, allow our president to direct and create personal wars, and rule our country on the basis of a religion. These are the things that I used to see on TV and wonder how the *beep* other, less civilized countries could do. I am appalled at what this administration has done to my country, upon retrospect.

Yet, I love America and Americans.

I must disagree. Americans ARE the nation. We ARE the country. We ARE the government. Only WE can reclaim it. WE are responsible for doing so. We begin on Nov. 7th, 2006, to rectify the wrongs of the past 6 years. However, if we don't wake up and realize we MUST remain engaged in the process, what we gain on Nov. 7 will be lost on Nov. 8.

I really don't want a tax increase.

We have survived the worst the Dems have to offer before.

They may take the House (but not by much) the senate seems safe.

Hopefully the more moderate dems will satand up and change the left wing nuts currently in leadership positions.

Well, let's see. There's been no federal tax increase under Bush. However, local and state taxes have the way of gasoline prices.

I really don't want a juvenile fiscal spending policy where there are no tax increases but we blow a truck bomb of money on a war of convenience and pile the bills on the already ludicrous federal deficit.

Why don't you give us your take on what is happening in Iraq. Are winning? If so, when are we going to win? Rough estimates would be fine. Will we be leaving when we win? This might help us better appreciate your perspective.

If the Republicans do better than expected you can bet there will be lots of conspiracy theories about the new voting machines.

If the Demoracts take the house and the senate you can bet there will be lots of whining about the "liberal media".

On a W2.2 million income we've taken on a $350 BILLION (so far) war. We have to pay for it somehow, sometime. LBJ did much the same and we got the stagflation of the 70's because of it. I say, pay as you go. And the Dems seem to have become the fiscally responsible party. Not to mention all the things Plig mentioned.

It's time to throw the bums out!
