It should be pointed out that Freud was not exactly an apostle of sexual tolerance himself. He classified homosexuality as a perversion, which gave the centuries-old anti-homosexual prejudice the ring of modern medical respectability.
And of course, he wrote about these so-called perversions in the detached, dispassionate prose of the medical man, thus avoiding the maniacal, paranoid tone that might have marked him as one of the over-compensating repressed deviants himself. But his arguments are the same ones that are used today by evangelical-oriented psychologists who claim to "cure" homosexuality. |
As I was saying, ironic since he saw penises everywhere. Just as cooky as the doctors that...cough cough....digitally relieved victorian women of their anxieties. |
