I hadn't even thought of this previously until I read some posts about the subject.

Should I bring a gift for the human resources guy and my hagwon director? And if I do, will I be expected to give gifts to them for every Korean gift-giving occasion whatever they may be?

Giving gifts is part of the culture in Korea. It doesn't have to be a big ticket item, maybe just rice cake packages for example.

It's like taking shoes off in the apartment. It's part of the culture.

Hello? Do you even live in Korea? Socks are just as much in evidence here as in the West. And the bath towels, well there's hardly any other size than small (at least where I shop)

Waggo is joking. While you're at it, bring some green tea for your new boss. They don't have that here either. Wink

I brought a small jar of local honey for my boss. We've also given gifts such as scale-tuned windchimes, patterned/stiched afghan throw blanket, American stationery, shotglasses with city names on them, and imported chocolates.

Other ideas: keychain, local made products....rats. Already ran out of ideas. Someone else will have to help out!

A gift is a nice thing to start a relationship off with. It certainly won't hurt your relationship with your boss and it will let you share a bit of something from home.

Honey seems to be a popular item. I think I'll go with that.

Thanks for the help guys.
