It seems to me that this year's newbies are not holding up their end of the bargain. They skulk around for months, finally decide to throw over the job/comfy spot in Mom's basement and land a job here...and proceed to not post much of any thing new. Traffic is slower than in previous years, it seems to me.

I would like to propose that MODS take on a new responsibility: Keep track of people who check out the board and eventually get a job here...and if they do not make an honest effort to post new threads, the Mods should hunt them down and physically 'admonish' them. Terminate with extreme prejudice is maybe too extreme, but not by much.

You are missing that 75% of the "newbs" posting are just socks. Huge influx recently. Not sure why.

You've never warranted anything but. When have I ever pinked or redded you, Dan? (And do you really care?)

But that new avatar needs to be downsized like all get out.

The reason no one new posts is because this forum isn't exactly the friendliest place on the web and also there seems to be an obsession with hassling newbies.

There are some people on this board who post TOO MUCH in my opinion. I'm talking about the people who post 10+ times a day. Every day.

People that fit this description include:

laogaiguk - 36 posts on Monday
EFLtrainer - 31 posts on Monday
RACETRAITOR - 26 posts on Monday
gang_ah_jee - 23 posts on Monday
Ya-ta_Boy - 23 posts on Monday
flotsam - 16 posts on Monday
poet13 - 16 posts on Monday
huffdaddy - 14 posts on Monday
Hollywoodaction - 14 posts on Monday
ChuckECheese - 11 posts on Monday
Yu_Bum_suk - 11 posts on Monday
ttompatz - 6 posts on Monday

Really - if someone is posting 10, 20 or even 30+ times a day (every single day) it has become an unhealthy obsession (perhaps even showing signs of being sociopathic) - as daves has become a very major part of their daily life.

I do hope you're joking or trolling. If not... At least people who post a lot are contributing (or something like that) rather than, um, sitting around counting other people's posts.

You might want to take some time out from your counting to check the definition of sociopathic.

Damn.

I was gonna say something but you already did.

Hey Ya-Ta. Sorry, I have nothing to say about the OP. Threads about complaints about boringness are notoriously boring in and of themselves. The best you can hope for with this thread is a flame war.

Ya-ta: I kind of agree with you. I get 2-3 PMs every month from newbies asking questions, and I'm usually happy to reply to their questions....BUT!!! some I WON'T answer. "What's a good school to work at?" How the heck can I answer that? One person's cake is another ones poison! "How do I get a uni job?" Oh for heaven's sakes!! Haven't you read this forum AT ALL????? There must be one thread a month about getting a uni job!!!

I DON'T mind the "What should I bring with me?" questions. This has changed a lot over the years (I remember when tampons were impossible to find here)....but the "How can I get a good job?" questions drive me insane! If you are a newbie and can't be bothered to read the stickies and the posts, WHY should I take the time to help you??

I LIKE helping newbies with info that they may not have picked up here (we ALL know that the search function is...well...I'll get beeped if I write it...) but for those newbies who ask questions that have answers easily found here??

And that doesn't even include their socks!!

That's a good start, Soviet Man, but your list isn't complete. You missed these three heavy-hitters.

QINELLA - 19 posts on Monday

TIBERIOUS - 12 posts on Monday

JONGNOGURU - 3 of the most massive, masterful, magical, majestic, marvelous, maverick, maroon... what a maroon!, mystical, musical, mafia-backed, majority-supported, monarchical, monotonous, monotheist, Monochrome Set-tish (click sig line), muscle-bound missives I've ever mangled on a Monday.

Monday was a light-posting day for me, Gott sei Dank! Otherwise I'd be up on Soviet Man's Official List of Complete Sociopathic Losers. And that would of course leave me no option but to roll on the floor and pee on myself. And it's 150,000 won a pop to have these persian carpets professionally cleaned. So doppel-Gott sei Dank! Shocked
