I got my sealed transcripts sent to my house and my parents are mailing them to me here in Korea so I can get the proper work visa and all that, but here's my question: Are they still good if they've been opened?

I thought "sealed" meant closed envelope not tampered with. My dad opened the envelope and later told me "sealed" meant having the university seal on the letterhead. Who's right? Do I even know what I'm talking about? Will I need to order these again?

Thanks for any help

Sealed means in an unopened envelope with a 'seal' (university stamp or something similar) over the sealed flap of the envelope. If your dad opened them, or if it didn't have that in the first place, you are out of luck. You will have to order them again and be sure that the university puts some sort of 'seal' over the flap.

IF YOUR DAD HAS OPENED THEM - THEY ARE NO GOOD. YOU MUST ORDER NEW ONES ASAP. THEY MUST BE SELAED AS REQUESTED.

Good luck.

I was told by the schools that I was applying to that Immigration changed the rules and the transcripts had to be sent directly from the University to the school. Is this true. I have many individual sealed copies of my transcripts but they were sent to me not to the school. Does anyone know for certain if these are good? I think it would be inconvenient and time consuming for the university to send transcripts overseas.

What's all this about '3 months' expiry for transcripts?
I got my university to send me sealed copies of transcripts about 3 months ago. But I will not be using them for another 2-3 months.
1) Are these sealed transcripts still OK for me to get a visa??
2) Or do I have to hassle my university (again) for new sealed transcripts??? This nonsense is driving me crazy.

I went into immigration about a week ago with a teacher's transcripts and there was no problem and I asked them if anything had changed and they said nothing had changed.

If your university sends them direct to immigration I think there's a good chance that they will just magically vanish

You know, I once got the wrong transcripts... the registrar at my university is notoriously useless... and immigration just let it slide and gave me the e2 anyway.

So I think it's nothing but another level of bureaucracy they threw on to the process to make it look like they're doing some work. Or maybe they just liked my passport photo. Damned if I know. My boss was an utter miser, so I cant bring myself to believe he'd have bribed them.

I'm gonna wing it with these ones, and maybe just add thick dark tape to cover the tape my friggen dad already put over it. One thing I've learnt in Asia is people often don't care about the rules. Not always true. I might have to order them again. BUT, there's a chance they'll still be used. Thanks for the help.

Well good luck, but the 'Lacadaisical Asians' over here in Korea may well care as they've supposedly tightened up on the sealed transcripts rule seeing as a bunch of Canadians got jobs here with fake diploma's and got caught. they were deported and the whole affair was highly publicised... At my last school, we all had to go to immigration (months after we got our jobs) and have all our documents re-inspected.

Good luck, but wouldn't count on it at all....

As in, transcripts with another person's name on them? Shocked

Well, as far as I know we didn't need the transcripts before all those people got busted with fake diplomas.

As in a guy with a name similar to mine, but not me.

Then again, Immigration may have simply lied since I never actually saw the transcripts. But I cant see what purpose that would serve.
