Peppero Day appears to be a saturday, so we public school teachers will be tucked up in bed in 11/11 morning. |

Oh, you'll still get them today from those hardcore pepero freaks.
I took a salvo hit of two little boxes when I walked into work today. That will be all.
I much prefer pocky or whatever. They have all sorts of flavors going on. |

This is my first pepero day.
I cannot believe how many of the things I have in my desk drawer right now.
Wow. |

V-Day: AgreeD!
Xmas: Completely disagree. You should have said Boxing day as that has no signifance of ANY sort.
And
Easter: I don't recall, as a child, Easter having HUGe "sales" events. |

All those western holidays have some historical root. They were not originally meant to be commercial. I think that gives them some credibility.
Pepero Day was invented by a marketing department in Japan in 1982 or something.
White Day and Pepero Day are tacky, insidious events.
Don't get sucked in!!! |

I got about 8 today.
At my hagwon, I was getting two or three.
Now I have about 20x as many students.
Therefore: Peppero day is less popular.
I decided I'd give one of the bigger P.sticks a try. As I swallowed, I felt something get stuck in my throat. Turns out it was my dignity. |

wow, you guys really know how to rag on stuff.
Its a tiny little piece of sticky-like candy that you give to people for a smile. It costs less than a piece of gum. It may be an insidious chaebol plot to steal FOOD from your MOUTH, except its a fun insidious plot and its still FOOD that goes into your MOUTH. |

| It's not food, it's cardboard swept off the chaebol factory floors, dropped in something brown, and repackaged and sold to idiots. |

My point was that you (not you personally) can't call Koreans "sheep" for succumbing to marketing tactics while ignoring the equally blatant marketing of holidays in the West. I mean, come on. Retailers do 50% of their sales for the year in the two months leading up to Christmas. How about Easter and chocolate? What exactly does Easter have to do with baskets full of candy?
In the end, does it really matter if there is a premise for the marketing or not? What's the difference? Personally, I think that commercializing a legitimate holiday is probably more repugnant than commercializing an invented holiday. But that's just me. |
