I was dreadfully bored one afternoon at work in recent weeks and I looked through the older threads in this forum. I went back to the pages from the time I started reading (Feb '05) and the amount of Canada/US threads was astonishing. Bumping all of them would take up the vast majority of page 1. Canada and the US aren't exactly chalk and cheese are they? Let's be honest. Spain v Portugal - interesting. Greece v Turkey - interesting. England v Germany - interesting. South Africa v Australia - interesting. Rome vs Athens - interesting. Canada v USA - about as interesting as West Virginia vs Virginia. Might be an idea if all concerned gave STFU a try. |

| Another thing, nowadays most Americans seen to think that everyone hates them. You can thank your paranoia-inducing media for that. In most cases, it's just not true. |

Flotsam, don't you agree that the American media are scare mongers? Or do you just like to find any excuse to blown your horn? That's how it looks anyway.
By your comment, it looks like you're lumping the American people, media and government into one group when clearly they're not.
The media and the gov, are liars. Everybody knows that.
American people in general are positive and friendly. I personally love having the United States as Canada's neighbor. We lucked out. |

I don't know if this topic should be banned--the question will come up again and again as new generations of teachers and trolls happen upon Korea and this board.
What I suggest, seriously, is that the topic be made into a sticky. Some people want to discuss this, others don't to see it revived every fortnight (or less). So why not put it up top where every one get to it, or ignore it?
Obviously the current manifestation of the title won't do, but something to the effect of "Canadian-American Relations in Korea and Elsewhere" would work.
Mods, make it so. |
I agree. I'm tired of seeing this topic come up ad nauseum. It's usually initiated by Hosers with a deep-seated inferiority complex. And as a citizen of the Great White North, I'm frankly embarrassed for the 32 million others who don't post here. As the inscription says on the Peace Arch at the border south of Vancouver, we are 'Children of a Common Mother', (although the 'common' part bothers me a tad). North Americans are family. We watch and read the same media, eat the same food, drive the same cars, have the same hopes and aspirations for our children and ourselves. Granted, Canadians tend to be more liberal and secular, while Americans tend to be more conservative and religious. But that's about all the difference there is. Now can we move on to something more meaningful? |

I agree, good idea.
So, what's better? Canada because it has provinces, or the USA because it has states???? Discuss. |

| How could I ever hate the nation that has given me so much entertainment, and helped solidify my employability overseas as an English speaker? |

If somebody wants to put a sticky on this thread, go ahead. The subject of this thread doesn't bother me in the least. It's something that just happens. Here's an interesting idea.....if the topic irritates some people, then don't open it up and read it. Ignore it. How easy is that? This is a perfect example of why some people stop contributing on this forum. |

You realize the irony here as this statement gives us no idea whether you are a Canuck or a Yank, oui? |

Good point.
We're also going to need a sticky for the punters in the blue seats who like to curmudgeonly yell at the rest of the crowd: "Just don't click on the link and move on goddammit!!!" They need their space too.
Anyway, the point has been missed. It is not just because some of us don't want to see the topic any longer, it's so that newbs don't have to rewrite the same thread every two weeks.
Now, check your pacemaker--I think you blew a capillary. (Your health is always on my mind, buddy. ^^) |
