I suspect that the anti-Muslim brigades have gone through Ellison's platform with a fine-tooth comb, hoping to find something that would make him look like a midwest ayatollah. But since he turned out to be considerably more liberal and secular than a huge chunk of the GOP, they've latched onto "issues" like what people were chanting at his victory party.

Good, they elect a muslim in the US. First of many. hopefully in a few years you will all be going to prayers at the mosque 10 times a day. Have fun with it.

I'm with subhuman on this one. Let's keep religious display out of politics.

I would agree if you meant Ellison. Unfortunately, he was as secular as could be, in speech and manner. He should make a good, informed, partisan lawmaker for all those of many faiths in his constituency.

Others, supporters, voters -- should be free to express as they wish. Amen, hallelujah, God is great or My God! That is what America is about.

How would Democrats react if a Republican who on a seat in Congress, was greeted on election night with "God is Great" or "Thank you Jesus"???

The MSM (mainstream media) would be all over it, trying to portray Republicans as religious zealots.

Yet, a few nights ago, in Minnesota, cries of Allah hu Akbar rang loudly at Keith Ellison's victory celebration.

Yet nary a peep.........The new face of the Democratic Party...Allah hu Akbar....

You must be joking, right? Republican politicians make statements like that everyday and the media rarely pays attention to it.

Keith Ellison is a Democrat, he is a liberal, and he has embraced secular politics. If some Muslims, in being happy, that a Muslim was elected chanted God is Great, why should people have Ellison disavow such a chant, unless he asked for the chant. The GOP has started a trend in the U.S. of mentioning God. Barak Obama mentioned God in his speech and so did other Democrats. So when Ellison said God, some of the Muslims chanted God is great. American politicians have created that environment.

If Ellison shared those views, then I would get my knickers in a not, but I don't see Ellison exhibiting those thoughts. My problem with American politics is there seems to be the using of God as if it is a fashion statement. At least, that is my skepticism. I do believe in God, and if someone is sincere about their beliefs, that is okay, but they should support the Constitution. If we thought these were Ellison's beliefs, then we would have a problem with this, perhaps. Do you see the difference? What does Saudi Arabia and rights of minorities have to do with Ellison in Congress? You are just invoking Islamophobia. I don't really like hearing the chanting much. Ellison is far more liberal than they are, and they are probably assuming he is like them because he is Muslim. Republicans and Democrats do not have political rule to ask a Congressman to disavow himself because some fellows said God was great.

has anyone but mr. sundubuman mentioned this incident yet? It seems if it were of any significance Coulter, Limbaugh, or another talking head would have brought it up by now.
