Yes, I dislike the "if you don't like it, don't click on the thread" argument.
If you don't like my opinion, don't respond to it.
Queen Elizabeth II remarked during Margaret Thatcher's premiership that she was "distressed by the state of the nation".
Liz - if you don't like it, don't open your eyes.
Liz was concerned about her fellow people. So am I. I'm concerned that Americans and Canadians are so obsessed with their situation that it requires 5 squillion threads. And newbies aren't even a factor, given it's the same boring crap over and over again by the same terrifically dull people. |

The old flot would have called you a jackass for not realizing it was a comment typed on a blog by a student.

I think we should spend less time on what Canadians think of Americans and more time on how everyone thinks Big Trouble in Little China kicks A**! Or even better, what would Canadians think of us if Lo Pan was president.... |

What I suggest, seriously, is that the topic be made into a sticky. Some people want to discuss this, others don't to see it revived every fortnight (or less). So why not put it up top where every one get to it, or ignore it?
Obviously the current manifestation of the title won't do, but something to the effect of "Canadian-American Relations in Korea and Elsewhere" would work.

I agree. I'm tired of seeing this topic come up ad nauseum. It's usually initiated by Hosers with a deep-seated inferiority complex. And as a citizen of the Great White North, I'm frankly embarrassed for the 32 million others who don't post here. As the inscription says on the Peace Arch at the border south of Vancouver, we are 'Children of a Common Mother', (although the 'common' part bothers me a tad). North Americans are family. We watch and read the same media, eat the same food, drive the same cars, have the same hopes and aspirations for our children and ourselves. Granted, Canadians tend to be more liberal and secular, while Americans tend to be more conservative and religious. But that's about all the difference there is. Now can we move on to something more meaningful? |
If somebody wants to put a sticky on this thread, go ahead. The subject of this thread doesn't bother me in the least. It's something that just happens. Here's an interesting idea.....if the topic irritates some people, then don't open it up and read it. Ignore it. How easy is that? This is a perfect example of why some people stop contributing on this forum. |
Good point.
We're also going to need a sticky for the punters in the blue seats who like to curmudgeonly yell at the rest of the crowd: "Just don't click on the link and move on goddammit!!!" They need their space too.
Anyway, the point has been missed. It is not just because some of us don't want to see the topic any longer, it's so that newbs don't have to rewrite the same thread every two weeks.

Sorry, didn't mean to get uppity. Your point is well taken about newbies writing the same thing that's been written countless times before. If there's a way to prevent it, then that's great. No offence to Dave and the gang, but the search engine isn't the best. |

No, they don't. They look and act like us enough that they pissed off at being mistaken for us while overseas. I think they might also be ticked off that Americans seldom get asked, "Are you Canadian?"
Mostly, though I agree that it is all about Bush. |

Um, no seriously, y'all are really upset about the fact you don't look, act, or talk differently enough from your neighbors to be discernible from what they've seen of hollywood ...
My advice : 1) find an accent that this all your own; 2)dress in clothes that look better than what we yanks wear, not hard to do but you haven't figured it out yet, sorry; 3) failing this, respond to such queries with, "No, I'm not American, but Canadian, and I'm so happy you want to talk about it!"
I pull the same similar goofs on my ozzie and kiwi friends, just for kicks. Asked a kiwi coworker if she had a pet kangaroo as a child ... turns out there is a small town in NZ with wallabies running around in it, so I learned something. |
