In the spirit of rampant nationalism that is present on this board from time to time, I would like to propose a challenge. I say America has the stupidest criminals in the English-speaking world. I was inspired by the English terrorist who didn't think anyone would take him seriously and the returned soldier (not a criminal, but...) who blew up his own butt with a firecracker. My reaction was, "I think America has better-quality idiocy to offer".

To set the standard I'm looking for, I found this story about a rapist (and no, I don't generally find rape amusing).

"In December of 1987, a young woman awoke to find a masked person standing over her bed, brandishing a knife. Terrified, she screamed. The assailant was so unnerved by the scream, he dropped his knife, told the woman to shut up and got down on his hands and knees to search for his weapon. After a moment, he gave up. He then sat down on the side of the bed and pulled a set of handcuffs from a jacket pocket. The would-be rapist identified himself as "Too-hot Romeo" and told the woman that he had been watching her for months. He went on to explain in great detail that he fantasized about being handcuffed to a bed, while the young woman did a slow "strip tease" for him, after which they would share a long passionate night. He promised that as long as she played along, she wouldn't be hurt. The young woman quickly agreed that the plan sounded very erotic and ....you guessed it. She told the man to strip down to the skin, which he eagerly did. She then handcuffed him to the heavy brass headboard of her bed, then grabbed his clothes, where she correctly guessed the keys to the cuffs would be, and ran to the living room. From there, she quickly called the police. As police were dragging the inept offender out of bed, he stepped on the knife which was laying in the plush pile carpet, neatly severing a toe. Local newspapers tagged the inept rapist, "The 'Where's My Toe' Romeo."

We need not limit entries to criminals; general stupidity is also allowed. The only rule: The perp must be from your country of origin. I mean it's no fair throwing up other country's idiocy for mockery: If you can't be proud of your own country's imbeciles, you can't really be much of a nationalist.

I can't believe stepping on a knife severed his toe. Wow!

Here's a story that happened in my hometown of Lakeland, Florida. I will quote it from Snopes, since you won't believe it otherwise.

Police and paramedics made an early morning call to a motel to free a man whose penis was caught in a swimming pool suction fitting. A clerk at the Scottish Inn motel made a 911 call at 4:45 a.m. Friday, saying the 33-year-old man was trapped in the swimming pool.

The pool's pump was shut off before paramedics arrived, but the man still could not free himself because his penis had become swollen. Paramedics inserted a lubricant around the suction fitting, and authorities freed the man after about 40 minutes.

The man, who had rented a room at the motel, told police he had gone swimming about 12:30 a.m. He was treated at Lakeland Regional Medical Center.



I guess he's not a criminal, but definitely stupid.

I remember reading somewhere the story of a criminal who called the police to come get him. Can't remember the details, but something about him trying to rob a business in which the owner would leave his pet snakes roam free during the night.

Obviously every country has dumb criminals! That's why every country has jails/prisons!
Show me a prison/jail free country...and that's where the smartest criminals are at least!
