Cartoons protester found guilty
Mizanur Rahman was filmed taking part in the protest
A man who called for the killing of British troops has been found guilty of stirring up racial hatred at a rally. Mizanur Rahman, of Palmers Green, north London, was arrested after a protest at the UK's Danish Embassy over cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad.
The Old Bailey jury was unable to reach a verdict on a separate charge of inciting murder.
The jury had spent two days considering the charges.
"I didn't think anyone would take me seriously," he told the court.
The 23-year-old was arrested after a rally in London on 3 February which was attended by some 300 Muslims.
The Old Bailey heard he addressed the protest on the issue of UK troops in Iraq, saying: "We want to see their blood running in the streets of Baghdad."
Meanwhile, Labour MP Shahid Malik, said he was "extremely pleased" at Rahman's conviction, adding it was "a good day" for community relations.
The Dewsbury MP said: "I'm very satisfied with the verdict and hope that it will send out the signal that whilst we may indeed be fortunate enough to live in a free society, it does not give people the freedom to stir up racial hatred, and that those who do so will be dealt with the courts accordingly."

I think this guy may possibly be a relative of a former student of mine.
Pogey was a 6'7" high school drop out who bought a car he couldn't pay for (so he could drive from Iowa to Australia to play for their national basketball team) at about the same time he got his 9th Grade girlfriend pregnant. Seemingly the pressure of finding the money to pay for his car (and the gas to drive to Australia) plus the abortion was too much for his brain.
He bought a black ski mask and and squirt gun and drove down to Thurmon, a little burg of about 300 people to rob their bank.
The police were waiting for him at the interstate entrance ramp when he drove away from the robbery. He said he thought he wouldn't get in too much trouble since he didn't use a real gun. (He also told his roommate Bubba in Leavenworth Prison that he thought he could hide in the crowd if he needed to.) |

And the other thousands upon thousands of muslims in the UK who called for the deaths of people who printed the cartoons? They get a free pass? Would that happen if I (in public) called for the death of muslims for killing that Nun in Somalia
Am I supposed to be impressed and think that creeping Euro sharia has been stopped because of one dude?
When they round up those muslims who called for death and blood and treat them like they would white supremacists (the most relevant comparison) then I will think Eurabia may not happen.

Sounds like a crime duo I heard about a while back that the local police, also somewhere in Ohio, I believe, nicknamed "Dumb and Dumber."
They attempted to rip off an ATM machine. I do not mean by somehow getting all of its cash, either. They tied a rope around the machine, attached it to their car, and drove off with it.
It did not work. More to the point: this ATM machine was across the street from a police station. Several officers had been watching these two guys the whole time, scratching their heads, wondering if someone were not playing a practical joke on them.
Finally, after they detained the two dudes, Dumb and Dumber confessed and explained their plot: they did not think it was going to arouse anyone's suspicions (driving down the highway, pulling an ATM machine behind their car -- and not on wheels or any sort of trailer, it must be clarified) because they believed they could easily explain it as a clothes-washing machine. And why would anyone look twice at that?

Yes, indeed. Why would anyone? You just can't underestimate the dimness of the criminal mind.
PS: I hope you are not confusing Ohio with the far more glorious state of Iowa. |

One, you should be pleased that he is prosecuted. Two, you should be pleased that a Muslim MP also openly expressed his pleasure at such a prosecution and conviction and the fact that England deported a cleric last year. England's efforts should be commended somewhat, BJWD, because it focuses on the moderates of the community while going out against the fringe and working to use the moderates to give them a clue as to where the fanatics are located. This conviction will help create a climate of fear for some of these people who think they can mouth such threats. They will know someone may be watching them, and we do not play. You forget making the example out of a few people sends a message to multitudes of people. I am sure the British have their agents who can speak Arabic in various mosques to keep the authorities abreast of what thoughts are out there. You are underestimating the will of the authorities. |

Yes, I am. And I apologize. I have always confused several states in that area, including Indiana and Illinois, esp. when I'm not consulting a map as I write. And let's not get into Delaware and Rhode Island, et al., at all, please.
I am a west coaster and hope this is forgivable. |

Even though you dissed the 32,000,000 people of Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Iowa--at least you didn't throw Idaho into the group (which is very common).

Oh, pshaw! If it weren't for the Midwest, the two coasts would roll together like two fat people in a saggy bed...and the country would implode. |
