Hello all. I'm in Tokyo and have been arranging my visa in the usual fashion, and have been informed that I will receive my visa issuance number November 13th. Now my recruiter has emailed me that her boss in concerned the the consulate in Tokyo might not be able to process a work visa, that it is 'not their job'. Now this same boss also said I'd be unable to get a notarized copy of my degree from the consulate, but I did manage to get one with a little brow-beating. But I am sure they process visas at the consulate. Has anyone here ever had their visa taken care of in Tokyo, as opposed to Fukuoka or Osaka? It seems like it should make no difference, but I want to be sure. My start date is the 24th, and if I need to make a trip to another city to get the visa I'll need to let the recruiter know so she can make the arrangements.

Thanks~

The wisest thing to do is get the phone number of the consulate in Tokyo and call them yourself. It is the only way to make sure.

Be sure to ask how many days it takes, as it is not uncommon for it to be 3 working days at the consulates that do not process visas in large numbers.

You CAN get it done at the Korean CONSULATE in Tokyo and it is DIFFERENT from the Korean embassy. The embassy will NOT process a visa for you.

The TOKYO information is still current.

It will take 4 to 5 working days for Tokyo to process the visa unlike Osaka or Fuluoka where they can do it in 2.

It doesn not take 4 or 5 days in Tokyo. I know this from research and direct experience. The Tokyo visa run info on this site sucks. If you go in on Monday morning, you will have your visa on Wednesday afternoon. If you go in on Tuesday, you will have it on Thursday afternoon. If you go in Thursday or Friday, then it may take 4 or 5 days as you have the weekend to contend with.

The Consulate employees are very efficient and nice. If you go to Tokyo, take a few extra days if you can, the city is wonderful.

Here are directions to the Korean Consulate in Tokyo:

The station is Azabu-juban, on the Oedo Line. Take exit #7 and cross the street at the crosswalk immediately outside that exit. Take the street/alley on your left, parallel to the crosswalk and follow it till it ends. Turn left, go straight down, on the right side, to the 6-8 lane road. Cross that road and take a right onto the opposite sidewalk; walk about 200m looking for the Korean consulate on your left.

If you need more info, PM me.

This is what I was told by the Tokyo Consulate when I called them.

One my teachers wanted to go there for his visa run so I called to find out some information and that's what they told me.

Bigbuds, if that's what the Tokyo consulate told you, then I apologize. I went there in August for a new visa and it took me from Monday morning to Wednesday afternoon to get my visa. Things could have changed, thanks for the new info.
