Great new albums:
Sufjan Stevens - The Avalanche (only if you already have Illinois and are craving more)
TV on the Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain
Yo La Tengo - I am not Afraid of you and I will Beat your Ass
Decemberists - The Crane Wife (but I know you already know this one)
Death Cab for Cutie - Plans (I can't recommend their live show as being worth the time and money unless they somebody like Ted Leo is opening for them, but this is a very good album). |
I dig your musical tastes.
If you're into these type of bands, may I suggest
Wolf Parade - Apologies to the Queen Mary (produced by Isaac Brock, off Sub Pop, probably their best release since the early 90's grunge period)
Arcade Fire - Funeral (If Dave Byrne/Bowie swear by it, so should you) |

buls....I am a GIGANTIC fan of illinoise...but I'm not really interested in Avalanche unless I know what kinda songs areo n there.
are there some illinoise/tallest man type, strange time signature songs?
Or a few songs like casimir pulaski...or are they more like the more space ambient stuff? |

Thx, got Wolf Parade and Arcade Fire already. Definitely good but IMO to a certain extent victims of the hype surrounding them (Decemberists seemed to have dodged that bullet for better or for worse).
Avalanche is as much a mixed bag as Illinois was.
It's incredible that some of this stuff didn't make the cut for Illinois (such as Dear Mr. Supercomputer).
The various versions of Chicago are a real treat and remind me of Joe Jackson's variations of "Is She Really Going Out With Him?" on his double "Live 1980/86" album. |

I'm from Montreal and yes, the hype does get a bit tiresome. When I was in France, i actually had people asking me if I always went to loft parties and ate chinese food w/ the Arcade fire. You'd think they were being sarcastic but they weren't.
If you want to hear the next big thing from Montreal before he gets huge, check out Patrick Watson - Closer to Paradise. I saw him play at a loft jamming with Gary Lucas, Stef Shchneider, Nick Diamonds and a couple ohters. Best show i've ever seen in my life. If you dig Jeff Buckley, get this album. Right now!!!! |

David Gilmour - On an island
Depeche Mode - Playing the angel
fairly recent releases by truly sophisticated artists.
However, they're rich enough already. Don't line the pockets of millionaires and do yourself out of pocket needlessly. Download them for free. |

| The Hold Steady's new album (Boys and Girls in America) is worth paying for (Just picked it up earlier this afternoon). |
