Is it possible to negotiate public school salary? I've noticed that posting for public schools have salary guidelines based on the levels of one's experience. I have a little bit of experience teaching ESL and substitute teaching- but not a year's worth but I don't want to get stuck with a 1.8 salary when I could probably get more in a private school.

thanks!

Most public schools work within the EPIK framework, meaning there are three pay scales. It may be possible to negotiate your way up the scale. But outside of that most contracts are standard.
Private schools have much more scope for negotiation

Or work in a public school outside of EPIK and make mroe than the top pay grade in EPIK. Thats the way to go. Just keep your eyes open. There aren't a lot of these jobs out there.

How exactly could I go about finding one of these jobs? I'm here in Seoul and finish my contract right when public school starts next term.

Then again to make more than EPIKs top pay you will need credentials and qualifications...unless you luck out.

Most schools that offer higher pay expect better qualified teacher so that degree in anthropology with no teaching experience might not get you that super Public School job...
