- Wedensday, 15 November.

ETA from Singapore is 14:00 and ETD Singapore 06:00 16/11/06.

At that time of day, aircraft usually approach from the north-west. My office is at the south-east end of the runway, so I may have to take a field trip after lunch ....

I take it then that Incheon has the capabilities for the A380. Many airports had to spend millions in upgrading their runways and terminals in order to house this monster.

That should be a site to see. Take your digi and send us some pics.

And it is true that airports have upgraded for the plane. Here's a simulation of a 380 at a terminal (Frankfurt?) with some 747's for comparison.

Crikey... that's a monster! I had no idea that it was so big!

How many people will it be able to carry and how long a runway will it require to lift it off the ground?!

With all the BS and problems that A380 had with their production, I wouldn't feel comfortable riding in one of them.

Why?

And if so, just choose another flight, as people did with 747's at the begining.

That sucker can carry 880 passengers. Man, it's going to be messy if that thing crashes....

I heard it's off to Tokyo after this- I guess it's a demo flight.

Here's what I found about the runway length:

The shorter gear base will provide better manoeuvrability than the 777 and Airbus A340-600, the latter being longer than the A380, while a similar gear track will allow operation from existing 45m runways and 23m taxiways, although a widening of the runway shoulders is needed. It's from this article:

http://www.flightglobal.com/Articles/2005/01/01/Navigation/179/191511/Great+expectations.html

I also read this from the article:

But according to Thomas Burger, senior marketing analyst A380, the issue of airport compatibility has to be put in context. "The A380 is not the monster everyone thinks it is and is very little different from the 747," he says, pointing to the results of wide consultation since 1994 with 60 airports, Airports Council International (ACI) ICAO, the FAA and national regulatory authorities.

Er, I'd say Wangja's simulated image doesn't mesh with what that analyst said!

Yeah, looks a little odd. Here are the facts:-

Wingspan Length Height Weight (max)

747 65m 71m 19m 400 t
380 80m 73m 24m 560 t

I would tend to doubt this as they haven't even finished building any yet (apart from the prototype).

***Edited the part about the prototype.
