I was offered a job at Sang Gye, in Nowon-Gu Seoul. However after researching the area I found it was an extremely crowded area of Seoul. I like the contract and everything else so I asked for a different location. The answer I got back was that I could work in Uijeongbu or wait a month and work in Seocho (Gangnam) Seoul. I have learned a lot about Seocho, a nice ritzy neighborhood, but I can't find anything about Uijeongbu.

I know it is 20 km from Seoul, but how long on public transit or taxi and how much would this cost?

Shopping? Services? Restaurants? Entertainment?
I really did want a smaller city but 400 000 people seems too small. Anyone living there now? Isolated?

I'd choose Seocho, as I love Gangnam. I lived in Uijeoungbu for the past 2 years, and every weekend was a chore to get down to Seoul. Nowon beats Uijeoungbu by a long shot. When I didn't feel like going all the way to Seoul, I'd go to Nowon.

Definitely Seocho, nice part of town, not too far from anywhere, clean, entertaining.....

I live in Junggye-dong, which is not far from Sanggye-dong. Depending on where you actually live, is dependant on how crowded you feel. I live in a very open apartment complex, with a great view of a mountain. The main street is nice and wide, and there are a lot of restaurants. In the Nowon subway area, there are lots of bars, no night clubs though. I have lived here for 4.5 years, and really like it, because I believe that it feels not as crowded as other areas in Seoul.

Uijungbu is not the greatest place to live. You might feel cut off from friends. It costs extra to take a taxi there at night, so if you miss the subway, it could get pricy.

Gangnam is a great neighbourhood, but as you said, a ritzy part of town, and things can get pricy. Apartment fees would surely be more expensive there, and you can count on getting smaller living arrangements, as the prices of apartments are steep.

Also, the Nowon area is being built up to be the next Gangnam. City planners are sinking a lot of money into this area, as they are predicting a boom. I have already seen quite a few changes in the neighbourhood.

In the end, it will all come down to whether you make the best of any given situation or not, because they each have their appeal and drawbacks.
