I just received my F-2 visa, but I am unsure of what I am now required to do. Do I have to set up my own tax account? I am able to work multiple jobs? Are there any special rules I must follow?

Also, is it in my best interst to work part time jobs if I am primarily concerned about making money.

The only difference with an F-2 is that you don't have to report who you are employed by to immigration. Any employer you work for (legally) is responsible for withholding taxes, registering you with the pension and health insurance office, etc. I would check to make sure they do what is required.

In terms of working part-time, I'm not sure if you'd be better off or not. It depends on what kind of an agreement you could come up with to work at a few diffrent places. Certainly you could teach and try to find R&D on the side. I would make sure any contract you sign doesn't have a clause saying it prohibits you from working somewhere else. If you are working at a public school (full time)you might really be limited as it would violate your contract.

Contracts have the "don't work elsewhere" bit to dissuade E2ers from doing privates.

I never asked to have that clause removed as I didn't want to bring any attention to it plus they're never likely to know.

The big plus of being F2 is that YOU own your visa(actually,you'd be on your spouses family register now,so...yr ass is theirs,technically.

If your main job caused a stink about it,you're free to work elsewhere.

Ah!Remember though to get your spouse to register-this includes you-at the local dong office within 3 months if/whenever you move.
