I have been offered a position at this school, but I have been told some awful things about the school. A search on this forum only listed 2005 entries. Can anyone give me some up to date information on the school?
I greatly appreciate the help. |

I'm getting the impression this is typical of universities in Korea. I applied to SNU with well-over what they were asking for in terms of qualifications and experience, plus two really good references, and I didn't even get an interview.
I'd like to know how many people have ever got one of the few good jobs by just applying and not having contacts/connections. |

| Sorry to disappoint you, but I do not know anyone who works for the university. However, to answer your question, I suspect connections get most people their jobs everywhere in the world. Anyway, I doubt i'll take the position as it does not pay enough. I don't believe the university jobs are as good now as they were in the mid 90's. |

| Steer clear -- it's the worst university in Korea and a place for people at the very end of their EFL shelf lives. |

| From what I was told by teachers who work there, too much work, not enough pay and a constant fear of losing your job. The ones I met face-to-face also claimed they were driven to alcoholism by work-related pressures. After hearing this kind of happy news, I turned the head teacher position down. |

This must have changed for the worse then!
I know a few people who worked there last year and they were quite happy with their jobs and with conditions.
You are talking about DongSeo University in Gaegum (Busan) correct? |

| Interesting... That happened this year at my university too. The introduction of a new director at my school has driven all of the teachers and admin staff to run for the hills... |

I wouldn't take what anyone says on this board too seriously. DongSeo is hardly the worst Uni/College to work at in Pusan or in the country. I can think of a number of worse places to work, although I refuse to mention any names.
As for the pay, it's standard for Pusan. Another Uni down the road only gives 1.8 for MA holders, and 1.6 if you've got a BA. |
