I am in EPIK. Middle school if that makes a difference.
When can I take my allotted vacation? Is it only taken during the regular school break?
I ask because my wife is in university in another country in asia. My family, especially my mother, in Canada really wants to meet my wife and son. My wifes' school breaks are in March and September. None of our breaks coincide.
Has anybody ever asked? Would a request like that hurt my standing if it were approved? |

They are pretty much always during the actual break times, but I know of two people who were able to take off a week before the vacation actually started in December. I think both March and September would be really, extremely hard times to get off because they are the start of the term, but it never hurts to ask. |

I don't think it would go over very well as the students would be without a teacher.
Perhaps if you organised someone to cover for a short period?
Don't know 'til you ask... |

"Don't know till you ask".....yup. If I were to take a week off though, it means that half my classes would only be one lesson plan behind. I see my students every two weeks..... I would also be happy to "make up" the classes I missed by doing extra over the following weeks... I only have 15 or 17 classes a week as it is, so adding a class or two a day post vacation would not be a big deal to me. I know that means that the benefit of a paid holiday is lost by making up for it in unpaid OT, but that's ok. |
