I posted this in the buy/sell/trade forum, but will post here as well because I think it gets more traffic.

I'm looking for a set of ankle weights so I can begin some rehab exercises on an injured knee. My quads and calf are beginning to atrophy, so I need to get some weights so I can gradually add some resistance. If anyone has a set they want to get rid of, or knows where I can get some, that would be a great help!

Thanks!

Had pretty major knee surgery in April here in Ilsan. They used one ligament to replace my ACL and cleaned up the meniscus damage. It happened years ago back home, but the feeling of instability finally got me to bite the bullet and get it taken care of.

I also had alot of atrophy, but couldn't do anything as far as rehab until recently. Joined a gym last week, and I already feel the muscles coming back. But no running until after they take out a screw out holding the new ACL in place.

The point of this is take care of your knees. Go to a doctor if you think there is anything serious. Korea is cheaper than alot of places, and I believe the doctors are very capable (if you go to the right place).

Thanks for the advice Caniff Smile

I've already had a lateral meniscal repair (about two years ago), which is apparently a far longer recovery than a meniscal removal. Total recovery time for me was about 3 or 4 months. It was brutal. So I know what it's like to go through rehab - hope you're doing alright.

I've been to two ER's when I first re-damaged it, followed by an Orthopedic surgeon. Had an aspiration (OUCH!) and an MRI so I know it's the meniscus again. My choice was surgery here in Korea, or wait till I'm home (two months roughly) in Canada and get it for free. I'm trying to hold off if I can. In the meantime I've regained SOME mobility. I can hobble now a bit without the crutches but still can't really bend my knee while I walk. I can't do stairs without the crutches either. But I'd like the weights to do some straight leg lifts etc while I'm lying down or sitting. maybe GENTLE leg curls when I can bend my leg a bit better. Basically I just want to add a bit of resistance to keep the muscles strong for when I go home.

Thanks for the tip about the 1000won stores, I honestly didn't think about that. I'll check a few out on the way home from work tomorrow.

Everyone on here is always so helpful to me... really do apprecitate it guys!

Smile

ankle weights are terrible they put extra strain on your joints with out having substantial benefits.

Weight Vests are much better.

Ok first what is a weight vest?

The reason I am choosing ankle weights is because that's what my rehabilitation physiotherapist (recommended by my orthopedic surgeon who is the top in the Atlantic provinces in Canada) used with me. So they can't be all that bad.

Basicaly a weight vest is a vest that you wear that you can put in weights into. Its to create a push pressure rather then a pull pressure on joints. Joints don't have a high tollarance to Pull pressure but have a high tolarance for push. Hence You're not pulling your joints a part.

A great place for exercise stuff is Dongdaemon stadium. In the shops around the outside of the stadium and around the baseball stadium are a lot of aerobics and exercise shops.
Another place is out of Dongdaemon station (not stadium). Go out exit 10 (I think). It is along the big road that goes to Jongro 5-ga. Walk along the north side of the road from Dongdaemon station to Jongro 3-ga and you pass many medical supply and physical therapy stores.
